8. Shaq Thompson, S/LB, Washington

People have been in love with Thompson's athleticism since he was a five-star recruit coming out of high school in Sacramento. However, all the athleticism in the world won't make up for poor instincts as a linebacker, and Thompson has yet to show he can make the necessary reads for the position. His 7.3 run-stop percentage was 41st among 58 draft-eligible starting inside linebackers, and he was an overall ineffective player against the run, outside of forcing and recovering fumbles.

Thompson's skill set translates better to safety, as he was smooth in coverage and has nickelback experience, but it's hard to feel comfortable picking a player early for a position you've never seen him play.

Have to agree the guy has bad instincts and is a chase and run down from behind type LB. Then all this talk about safety...Just don't see it. He is a tweener who is a jack of all trades master of none type guy. Even his sparq rating was only average while so many hype up how athletic he is. This is not the way to go(in the first) DG. Sorry about the title..he was number 8 on a list of ten.

His instincts aren't elite for a LB but that doesn't take away much from his potential, especially in a defense like ours where he could be utilized in a lot of different positions. 25 may be too early, but if Ron and DG see him worthy of 25 then I'm down.

i feel like if he were drafted he'd be a saftey.

Problem is taking him in the first seems a little iffy since  I've never seen him play saftey.

But I wouldn't hate it. I feel like he can be an elite safety in coverage.

Browsed the list, I pretty much agree with all of it.  Dupree is the closest one I came to disagreeing, but he's a boom or bust type guy imo.  Some guys there specifically I've been disagreeing with people here drooling over (Dorsett, Funchess, Thompson).  I haven't looked into Waynes at all, so I have no opinion on him.

awh yeah baby just what i want.  a safety that has shitty instincts.

i can't believe we're even discussing this like taking a defensive player in the first round should even be a possibility.  i will be infuriated if we spend our first pick on a defensive player

We're gonna take BPA, whether it be offense or defense.

It'smore likely to be offense, but a player like Landon Collins ison the board, well, prepare to be mad

I haven't watched him to have an opinion one way or the other, and I generally like PFF insights, but they also think Kuechly is way overrated which tells me they aren't always super accurate.

PFF starting talking positively about Keek and changed their tune on him last season FWIW.

uh oh. the top minds of the huddle have a raging boner with shaq atm. prepare for the usual "pff is irrelevant... i watched his highlights" shitposting.

LMAO some of you bro's get so pissy. It's draft talk. Draft talk is 100% speculation.

    • There's some big assumptions in here - first, I think Canales HAS helped Bryce a poo ton. To pretend he hasn't is asinine. Has he fixed him?  I mean, the dude looks like he could perhaps be a backup or low-end starter now, whereas he looked like he didn't belong in the NFL a year ago. You're talking about a coach that brought one of the worst NFL QBs of all time to a point where he may actually be a low-end starter. That IS impressive. Second, the bolded. Come on - given the offense, the dude is far from "trending towards bust." He definitely needs work but he's shown an impressive ability to get open. He's contributing to an anemic offense. The dude is our leading receiver (though he'll be #2 in yardage by end of season by a little, as Thielen does better per game).  As to his coaching, he had this team competing and believing against 3 of the better teams in the NFL, despite the lack of talent, and despite our QB situation.  Yes, things fell apart vs DAL, and he was outcoached. But that will happen with young coaches IMO.  I don't think it indicates he cant' be better. The idea of "pulling off the bandage" is ridiculous. Who would want to coach here if we fired this guy after one season?
    • Whatever they are in totality the cowboys are beat up all to hell on both sides of the ball and even that was too much for lil Bryce to overcome.  Bryce defenders have to hype up every other team and trash every other part of the panthers just because of the situation they’ve put themselves in.
    • JB had a first round grade in the eyes of a lot scouts based on HIS TALENT LEVEL. If not for the injury he would have gone higher in the draft, possibly between the middle and the end of round 1. To get him just before the 50th pick is a steal. He'd be on a 4 year deal. You can't even renegotiate until the end of the season 3. You're basically paying him nothing for 3 seasons. I don't buy into all back are interchangeable. No they're not. You have average backs, good backs, then your great-exceptional backs. The latter category doesn't grow on trees. If a back is special it pays to keep them. The key is knowing the difference between the first two categories and the third one.
