As draft day draws near

Agree 100% brother. Mayweather is the most technically sound fighter I've seen probably ever. He will win decisions because he is an amazing counter puncher and defender (I wouldn't say the best in the history of the sport, but very good nonetheless) and he doesn't take chances that get him in trouble. He sits back, picks his shots, dodges, dips, feints, and gets the points. On top of that, he only fights guys that he knows he will beat and that he knows have no shot of damaging him. He is a cocky son of a bitch who doesn't even attempt to back up his jawing, because he's afraid to fight the top fighters. This Pac fight is only happening because the money was wayyyy too much to pass up for Floyd and it took this long to happen because Pac isn't in his prime and likely won't be knocking him out like he could've a lot easier 5 years ago when the fight should've happened. I can think of at least 20 fighters in Mayweather's weight class that are better than him (not current fighters) so I can't stand all of his dick riders who call him the greatest pound for pound fighter of all time. As for this fight, I'm about 80% sure Mayweather will win. He'll sit back, pick his shots, play defensive and win on points like he always does. Only way Pac wins is if he can catch Floyd off guard with his speed and power and capitalize on it. Figure for the hell of it I'll put a couple hundred on Pac to knock him out since the odds favor it and if he wins that's how it'll happen, but I'm not getting my hopes up. Really only gonna watch it since it's likely the last "megafight" in boxing. $100 is outrageous but oh well.

I don't really have any favorite fighter. I have guys I dislike and root for whoever goes against them (like Kovalev, Mayweather, Broner, etc.). I like GGG but tend to pull for Americans more. I'm going to the Klitschko-Jennings fight this Saturday and am pulling heavily for Jennings, though I don't expect him to win. Would love to see us finally bring the heavyweight title back home. Not as excited about boxing these days as I once was but the sport's not nearly as dead as a lot of people think. Nowhere near as popular as it once was but there are still some great fighters. No Sugar Rays (Robinson--not that name-stealing chump) but definitely some great fighters. I want to see Hopkins champ again, would have to love a 50+ year old champ. Stevenson would have to take out Kovalev though for that to happen.

Agree with this assessment of Mayweather. He is a completely defensive fighter who fights not to lose as opposed to fighting to win. Thatw asn't always the case though. When he beat Gatti back in 2005 he was the same arrogant SOB but he handed it to Gatti offensively and defensively. I think as his streak has grown, so to has his conservative desire to protect the streak and beat Marciano's 49-0. But I agree, this is likely the last superfight in boxing and will be worth the watch. I grew up watching boxing and will never forget the force of nature that Tyson was and his spectacular fall as well. I still think the Buster Douglas fights was one of the best fights I've ever seen. But ever since I got heavily into Martial Arts and then the UFC came out around 1992, I've liked MMA more than boxing. When done right, it adds a level of complexity that boxing can't match. Additionally, the way boxing is controlled by the promoters leaves a lot to be desired. The UFC is trying to emulate the NFL more than the way boxing has always done it. They will even go to uniforms (kind of) this summer and are getting rid of all the rinky dink sponsors plastered everywhere. They are trying to go more professional and league oriented. It's a good time for the UFC.

Last year even so called experts complained that Gman was dumb for not taking an OT in the 1st, even though there were none worth a 1st round pick at 28th. This year, unless a lot of teams go OT crazy, there will be a good one available, and I'll be disappointed if that's not the position taken, but I won't whine and complain if he decides BPA is a WR or defensive player. I'll just assume a guy who should have gone in the top 15 or so dropped down and became a no brainer pick.

Funny you should mention MMA...

Mayweather did some trash talking of the UFC a few years back. But when UFC President Dana White offered to arrange a fight with the UFC's lightweight champ at the time, Mayweather backed off on his statements.

99.9% of boxers, in my opinion, would get destroyed by a comprably talented MMA fighter. However, the MMA fighters who are heavy on striking would get schooled by the best discipline there is with your hands...boxing. But, in general, boxers just cannot withstand that varied attacks of an MMA fighter. Nothing against them...they just aren't equipped/trained.

A friend of mine was hanging out in a bar with Ray Mercer (former Gold Medalist and Heavyweight Champ). He described how he had no idea what he was doing in an MMA match and how he was practicing tapping with his wife the night before an MMA match. :D

He also went on to knock out Tim Sylvia in 9 seconds with a haymaker. Boxers will always have a punchers chance...espescially heavyweights.

I suck at math.  Anyone know about what time the Panthers @ 25 will be picking?

I think it will be crucial to monitor alcohol intake to fully and correctly gauge the reaction of the huddle and the actual timing of our pick will be crucial to the decision making process.

If draft starts at 8pm ET, and each team takes the full 10 minutes, we will be picking at midnight?

I have two jobs. I'm taking a personal day from one and the other better have all emergencies near Westminster.

If you enjoy something you'll make the time. And this theater has a bar

It ain't the job that is the deterrence.... its the wife.

Like my buddy said you got to pick and choose what hill you want to die on.

When I hate a pick it generally only lasts about 15 minutes. After that I pretty much always talk myself into loving whoever the Panthers pick regardless of how I felt 15 minutes prior. I love the draft because it's fun to speculate and pick your favorites, but in the end I'm a Panthers fan first and will always be on board and support the guys we draft.
