This Devin Funchess guy...(WR Michigan)

Only problem is Cam doesn't hit guys in stride very consistently, so I don't know what a speed guy is going to do other than be a decoy half the time.

Unless I'm forgetting someone Ginn has pretty much been Cam's only real burner. Cam helped Ginn have his best season as a WR and landed him a nice pay day. Cam hit Ginn many times in stride downfield, we need more players that can take the top off a defense so Cam can do the same with them!

Nelson Agholor or Devin Smith please!

oh god the Cam Newton patrol. Everyone hide!

As big a homer as people claim me to be about Cam Newton. If he can't hit a fugging speedy WR in stride, he doesn't need a contract.

Of course I know that not to be the case. The deep ball inconsistency we've seen as of late is a combination of mechanics due to the ankle and other injuries, Shula ball, and a revolving door lately at WR. Now that we have Ginn back, combined with Brown, I think we will see Newton's deep ball accuracy return.

I'm all for giving Cam speedy receivers. Need big play ballers that can take advantage of his arm strength.

I'd actually rather have guys like this then straight speed guys, considering Cam isn't all that accurate at times.

Maybe he is not as accurate because the guys are smothered off the line, are slow, and can't get open.  The deep balls later in the season to Philly Brown looked pretty good.   Couple that with the fact that Cam's timing and mechanics were off since the Cinci game.... probably has to do with our Oline looking like:

And I'm not posting this to say that Cam is super accurate and it's all the Olines fault, I'm just saying running for your life consistently has to throw off your mechanics.

Cam is not very accurate on his deep passes. I'm not going to get into it with a bunch of people here that can't accept something they've seen with their own eyes for years, but it's true.

I'm not claiming the guy is 100% accurate or something absurd like that. But you also have to apply the circumstances and look at it from there.

I would go more into his accuracy in general if we are having this conversation. He's still trying to find that balance with it.

But as a poster above just mentioned, running for your life behind a sub par OL does not exactly help your mechanics.

For example, I'm going to give Newton the offseason this year to work on things since for one he has actually gotten a chance to get healthy, and he can gain some continuity with his WR's. Compared to last season where we decided it was a great idea to gut the entire WR core when he just had ankle surgery and missed most of the offseason.

If guys like Agholor, Dorsett, Devin Smith, Darby, Orchard or Fisher aren't there @ 57, I would take Funchess (if available).

He is a huge mismatch, can play WR/TE and is just as big as Benjamin. Think about trying to cover the size of KB, Olsen and Funchess.

What you are saying about the Cam we have seen so far is true but we have never seen him play with the combination of a solid O-line, clean bill of health and a true #1 WR with whom he has built chemistry.

Edit: Like what TheRed just said.

I know Cam had an injured ankle. I know the offensive line has been garbage. Those are unfortunate and certainly play a part in his inaccuracy at times.

My point is that his deep ball is inaccurate more times then not. I have a job and a wife and a kid and can't go back to every game throughout his career and point out every single deep ball that he has thrown to prove my point. All I can go off of is watching every snap of every game and seeing many many many times that a big play was left on the field because a receiver was under or over thrown on a deep route.

Now naturally, somebody here with extremely limited intelligence and an even worse attention span will link one or two select plays on YouTube or as a gif to prove Cam has hit receivers in stride on a deep ball. These people are functionally retarded and don't understand me when I say Cam's inaccuracy on deep routes is "more often than not" and not "every single time".

Now someone else will point out how many times KB or Ginn have dropped a deep ball that was on target, therefore deflecting blame away from Cam to protect him. This is understandable because some people live in a black and white world while the rest of us enjoy the grey area. I'm not talking about receiver drops, I'm talking about a quarterbacks penchant for an inaccurately thrown ball on a deep route.

I just feel like if a guy runs a 4-flat 40, then Cam should be able to put it right on the money for that guy on a deep ball. If a guy runs a 4.6 forty, he should just as easily be able to put it right on the money. Now maybe that spot will be a 20 foot difference down the field because of the speed variable, but he struggles to hit that "on the money" spot for various targets consistently.

That's not bashing Cam. It's simply making an observation on his game.

We could put up examples from both sides. The overthrows, and the costly drops.

I've seen some head scratching throws from Cam, and then I've seen so many more where I'm asking myself how the hell he did that.

It's somewhere in the middle clearly. Newton needs to improve, that is plainly obvious.

For myself, I'm ready to see what Newton and our offense can accomplish without so many variables working against them.
