A closer look at Todd Gurley

Rivera has said he wants Stewart to take around 15 carries per game (that would be 240 over a season). Given that, I would not be surprised if we draft Gurley.

Panthers will run the ball 480 times.

Here is the breakdown:

Cam 120

Stewart 240

Tolbert 80

40 carries remain for the rest of the RBs.

So, unless the plan is to replace one of these 3 in the running game do not use a 1st or 2nd round pick on a RB. The return on investment is not there.

lol dolphins are going to draft him.

And if not the Dolphins, the Texans, Chargers and Cardinals all have pressing RB needs and only one other RB worthy of the first round.

With the positive news about his knee, looks like this is going to have to be a Star-esque miracle barring a trade up which doesn't seem like something DG would do that early.

one thing i forgot to mention, is that penetration kills Gurley. if you stack the box, and can create another LOS in the backfield, he is not going any where.

That's what scares me about getting him. We're likely to allow lots of penetration again this year

I think it's possible for us to move up in the first, I'm not sure though if we move up to grab Gurley though.  I've said for a while that I thought he'd be our pick, but the hype on him is cranking up, so he may not be there at 25, that's the bad news.  The good news is when 1 guys stock goes up, someone elses falls, helping us having a higher rated player fall to us at 25 (if we stand pat).

I could get behind moving ahead of Arizona if he's there, but beyond that when you start looking into the top 20 and even 15 at that point I don't think Gurley merits the kind of trade it would take to make it happen. Anybody want to use a draft pick value chart to see what it might take?

I agree with you, I'd move up to get in on Gurley over Zona, but I wouldn't attempt to move up into the top 20, but I'd talk to bengals/lions/steelers/eagles about moving up to get ahead of Zona for him.  Then again, the question when we get to that point is this, if we're sitting there and gettleman has 5 guys left in his top 15 rankings and 4 picks to go, he might not opt to move up.  I think the better question becomes if there's only 2 guys left in his top 15 and we hit pick 20 how he will move up to get his man.

I'm just curious, are RBs devalued, or are they still game changers worthy of high 1st round picks?

IMO you take game changers any and every time they are available. That's the BPA way right? If TG is there at 25 he most certainly will be a Panther.

Exactly...AP would be a top 2 pick in this and last years draft...(in hindsight of course)...but only one way to find out if you have a game changer.

I'm just excited about the possibility of drafting anyone! We have the freedom to chose whomever we want because our GM does GM things and has prepped this roster for the draft. I'm totally love struck by this new reality. Never experienced it before. I was a bit young for the Polian days. Though I do remember them.
