it does seem like DC has put their entire franchise in the hands of Snyder- damn that idea of having Jesse as Jimmy Olson and killing him off would not have been that bad- and Cranston as Lex would have been epic

I have to ask if anyone knows- why isn't Geoff Johns more involved?

He is going to be writing the batman solo films now

Got to admit I don't understand the terrible reviews.  Admittedly, its not on the level of the Avengers or the Dark Knight, but its certainly doesn't deserve to be rated as poorly as it is.  I enjoyed it.  Probably won't watch it again, at least not until its TBS in 5 years or so, but it was certainly an entertaining flick.

I thought someone older should have been Luthor.  Cranston would be good, or even Anthony Hopkins.  Ben A was actually good as batman. Eisenberg would make a good joker.

I'm in the minority here, but, as a Batman fanboy, I actually liked it for the most part. The first part of the movie was weak, and I'm willing to bet that most of the cut footage belongs to that portion of the film because it seems to jump from scene to scene with little direction; I'm excited for the directors cut.

Affleck kills it as Batman, and he does a great job at portraying an older, jaded version of him based on Frank Miller's Batman. Gadot is ok as Wonder Woman, I just wish they explored her character a little more. Superman is just kind of there, which is fine with me because I hate Superman as a character, and watching Batman kick his ass was a delight.

I'd give it a 7/10.

Just saw it. I didn't think it was half bad. The Flash casting is horrible and I wish they kept Diana completely under wraps, trailer and in the movie-until her reveal during the big fight, but other than that I thought it was decent. A lot of the common complaints are valid (speaking mainly of the horrible Lex casting) but I still thought it was enjoyable and seeing DCs big three on the same screen was cool.

So I went, and saw this yesterday in 3D.

What I read about this movie here, and in other reviews throughout the internet made me think it was going to be a big steaming pile of poo. So I went in with no expectations at all really. Honestly I enjoyed it for the most part. There were definitely some flaws, but hopefully Snyder can learn from it, and build on that in the future. I give it a 7/10. Pretty decent comic book flick but nothing that will blow you away.

I think some people just have way too hard of a time separating movies from actual comics.

I'm glad some people seem to like it.

I have to ask, though... those of you who liked it, are you big fans of the characters?

I like the Batman movies and some of the tv shows/cartoons. Batman movies have typically been the best of any comic book movies.

However, I've always been a Superman fanboy. Comics, movies, TV shows - George Reeves, Lois and Clark, Smallville... I've watched them all. Yes, Superman usually translates to bad movies. The 1978 Superman is easily the best Superman movie, but that isn't really a testament to that being a good movie. It's a sign that the others have been really bad.

When I saw Man of Steel, I was pretty neutral in reaction. I liked the movie, but I thought it was a set up for better movies. But we got Dawn of Justice instead. Lex Luthor is basically the Riddler and uses easily traceable "experimental bullets" to frame Superman in a way that makes no sense to anyone but Zack Snyder. Jimmy Olsen is a CIA Operative who gets killed with those "experimental bullets" in the first half of the movie. Batman kills people willy nilly. Gotham City and Metropolis are now apparently Oakland and SF, sitting across the bay from one another. Superman's hearing only works when Lois is in trouble since he can't hear his mother. Batman gained a precog ability. Worst of all, if the story teller relies on dream sequences (multiple ones, at that) and news broadcasts to tell a story, maybe he isn't very good at telling stories to begin with.

I really hope this franchise dies so a new one is started quickly.

You might like this piece on Snyder's Superman.

"Warner Bros, custodian of the Superman legacy, has handed the keys of the character over to Zack Snyder, a filmmaker who has shown he feels nothing but contempt for the character. In doing so they have opened the character to an ugly new interpretation, one that devalues the simple heroism of Superman and turns the decent, graceful character into a mean, nasty force of brutish strength."

Why does it matter if you or someone else is or isn't a "big fan" of the characters?

Does that mean one opinion is better than the other? It's just a movie.

Also, even for the Nolan Batman films, though they were loved by critics, comic book fans still argued about every little thing, and questioned each others fanhood. That aspect clearly hasn't changed now, and probably never will. If you want your comic book characters to be exactly like in the comics, you should probably just stay away from Hollywood movies. It may suck, but that's just the ultimate truth of the matter.

With comic book movies, I've always said if you have to choose between pleasing the critics and pleasing the comic fans, choose the fans.

From what I've been reading, it sounds like this movie displeases both.

Not good...

I agree with this to a point but my view would be to please the fans..not the comic fans becasue I remember when Nolan was interviewed about comic cannon and how much he looks at it he basically said he doesn't much.

Comic fans can be so fickle and there are so many different stories that the focus should just be on making a good film first.imo
