A Question brought up from IGO's latest podcast?

WOW!!

I think Brown is better than Bersin and hopefully will make the team. I really think we will keep Boykin over Cotchery and the rest depends on if we draft a WR and if Stephen Hill can make the Roster. Hill could end up being our #2 or could end up not even making the team. Hill is a mystery because we don't know if he has improved with a season in our practice squad.

I don't know he couldn't beat a DE on a fly route. . I much rather have player on the field that can take that short underneath routes to the house.. Cotchery really isn't a playmaker nor does he play special teams so he seems like a wasted roster spot. Jmo

Not sure why they had Cotch run a fly route anyway! Lol! But seriously, if we can find someone better then he is gone. I just think they value him more than we do. We have no idea how much Cotch helps behind the scene. But if we can't bring in someone better then there isn't a point in letting him go.

Not even remotely true.

Thomas, you name one team in the NFL where Brown would have gotten some playing time as a a WR last year, and I guarantee you I can easily shoot down that false notion.

He may have gotten some play on ST, but as you saw, he couldn't even beat out Bersin.

I get that but if we want to compete to win a Super Bowl, we need playmakers on the field. High character guys only get you so far. Olsen, TD, Kuechly, Tillman by themselves have more leadership/mentoring qualities then some teams have on their whole roster.

I don't know that I disagree with you, but the coaches have definitely indicated that they value the veteran presence really highly. Also, none of the guys you mention are going to be in the WR position group meetings maybe Olsen a little bit but I don't think they have as big an effect as you might think. Whenever someone in the NFL mentions that a veteran helped mentor them it's always by a guy at the same position.

I'm going to post my WR film breakdowns soon and hopefully you'll come around a little bit when you see what I'm seeing. Almost done looking at every single offensive snap of Philly's. Not saying he would start for other teams or even necessarily be the #3 on some teams, but he is already easily among the best 96 WRs in this league (top 3 on each team). I will tell you right now, his roster spot is a lock. And I stand by that 150%. This isn't some "fan favorite" thing, it's a pure football perspective. I know you think he's a JAG, though I don't know how you define that, which I don't think is even close. I don't want to throw a lot out here without posting the full breakdown, but I hope you'll keep an open mind on him. I plan on posting it this weekend. Also doing the other wideouts, tight ends, Cam, d-line and secondary this offseason.

As for naming one team, Philly would've been top 3 on the depth chart for the Browns last season.

I just can't think of any other team in the league, and I mean none of them, that would promote Corey Brown as a starter.  Only in Carolina. That's just the truth.

Edit: I mean only on the Huddle. Gettleman is not a mad man.

Nobody anywhere is promoting him as a starter right now. Not even me, and I'm probably the highest on him of anybody here.

So in your opinion Corey Brown would've played behind Maclin, and Cooper, and ahead of Jordan Matthews a 2nd round pick 42nd overall draft pick vs a small injury prone undrafted receiver who is never going to be more than a slot receiver-- Matthews is a 6'3'' 212lb receiver who's potentially their no.1 this year after an eight TD, 872 yard rookie season on just 67 receptions, 13ypc with Maclin headed to KC. http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/16763/jordan-matthews

I'm sorry man but right now IMO Brown is expendable, I'd rather see Hill, and Boykin round out the roster.

Kelvin Benjamin

Rookie

Ted Ginn Jr.

Jerricho Cothery

Jarrett Boykin/Stephen Hill

...and if we keep six receivers insert Philly there (unless we draft two).

You got confused man. CLEVELAND BROWNS. Nowhere did I say Eagles. They're one of the few teams I don't think he would've been top 3, but he would've been #4 there with playing time. Philly is significantly better than hill and Boykin as a WR. And his name isn't Brandon Boykin sport, it's Jarrett.

Excuse the name typo, but Brown if as good as those players would've been drafted Philly doesn't even make Green Bay's roster. He ONLY made ours due to special teams early on. And he ONLY got a shot at WR because Avant was soo damn slow, and criticized the coaching staff.

Let's not act like Philly is as good as any WR we'd draft rounds 1-4, he's AVERAGE. Stop acting like he brings more potential, size (our GM's philosophy is BIG players), and he was mad expendable when Ginn Jr returned sport!

EDIT:

Anything Cleveland Browns doesn't even count, they can't even get their 1st round picks straigh, all busted, Brandon Weeden (sp), Trent Richardson, Johnny Manziel. That GM/staff don't have a clue. Name a legit playoff or even bubble team where he is top 3 out of training camp....I'll wait.

I can tell you haven't watched him closely at all. Or any wide receivers for that matter. Read my breakdown when I post it, maybe it'll enlighten you and some others.

I will most certainly check it out.

As for the Browns, They weren't a star-studded cast either, but no way Philly plays ahead of Mr. Hammy, Andrew Hawkins, Travis Benjamin, Taylor Gabriel or Marlon Moore. I keep up with all these guys during the season. He is number 4 at most.

Come on, man...

I will wait for your work.

I watch, and re-watch all Panther games, Philly is nothing special, or worth a roster spot. If we had kept LaFell, Hixon, and Smith he wouldn't have made the team. Hell Underwood was supposed to beat him out but he had a terrible camp. Philly, small, got hurt a few times, not particularly a field stretcher in the same category as Ginn is, can't return punts or kicks.

What does Philly do so well, give us a snippet of this expert  break down. Brown made the team out of necessity straight up.

The way he played by seasons end for us was better than Austin (at this point in his career), definitely better than Benjamin and Moore (0 receptions....) and I'll give you Hawkins being better but not by much. Gabriel wasn't a whole lot better than Philly as the stats suggest, but I'll give you that too. He developed throughout the course of the season. Week 1 Philly wouldn't have been #3 for them, but week 19 Philly would be. I'll admit I've watched less tape on them than I have on our receivers, but from what I've seen (without any bias or homerism), that's where I'd rank Philly.
