A Question brought up from IGO's latest podcast?

WOW!!

How many of those players received a $1.7m signing bonus?

I won't say Ginn is guaranteed to make the roster but I would be shocked if he didn't. The front office would look stupid for giving that big of a signing bonus and a player not make the roster.

Depending on what type of receiver we draft Bersin might be as likely to make the roster as Brown.

Yeah it would look bad if we didn't keep him after giving him 1.7.  However that doesn't mean he is going to be gift wrapped #3 or PR.

I don't get why Cotchery is a lock. His production was no where near to what some people had projected for him. He had key drops, is slow, and a yr older

Read the Proehl quote him in the nuggets thread then consider we will probably have another highly drafted WR on the roster. They love his veteran presence in the locker room and meeting rooms and I'm not sure Ted Ginn is the type of guy who can fill that role although someone can correct if I'm wrong about that. He never struck me as the leader/teacher type but I admittedly have no real idea.

Apparently it takes more than the "stuff you can't teach" cause Hill didn't get a hat last year.

Yeah wasn't like he had a full training camp...

Do you just follow my post so you can quote me the stupidest opinion that  can escapes your skull???

Actually no I was browsing and found this comment interesting and also somewhat counter to your previous argument.  This is not an opinion BTW.  Fact is he did not get a hat and could not supplant any of our WR last year.  I will give you the fact that he did not have a full training camp but will point out that the same was said regarding McKing and Nutt the previous years.  I hope he works out but I dont have high expectations.

And for the record, I have many stupider things than this escaping my skull.

Just a question. .

When did I say he was a lock for the roster or will have impact for the team??

All I've said in this thread is "if" he can learn how to run routes and catch the ball consistently. . He has more upside than any WR on the roster.. Because of his size and speed combination. . But again he has to learn how to run routes and catch the ball consistently. . I have no clue he can do that.. I'm really not betting he can because I would love to draft 2 WR this year anyway..

Seen a lot of people pencil in Cotchery to make the team..

I was pretty disappointed in what he brought to the table last year.

I think the coaches value him because of his vet presence. Plus, with Ginn coming back and a possible draft selection, Cotch could take on a different role. Ginn and draft pick could open things up for him.

I get that but if we want to compete to win a Super Bowl, we need playmakers on the field. High character guys only get you so far. Olsen, TD, Kuechly, Tillman by themselves have more leadership/mentoring qualities then some teams have on their whole roster.

I don't know he couldn't beat a DE on a fly route. . I much rather have player on the field that can take that short underneath routes to the house.. Cotchery really isn't a playmaker nor does he play special teams so he seems like a wasted roster spot. Jmo

Vet presence is nice, but its just icing on the cake.  Production needs to be valued much much higher.  In that area, he didnt do anything special.

Was it Cotch, or something else....like an OC not knowing how to use him, and a QB that couldn't get on the same track as him?
