A Question brought up from IGO's latest podcast?

WOW!!

Recommended Posts

It's a bit much to make that claim after only his first season. He's got a long career ahead.

Many of those drops last year were concentration. I think he was trying to do too much too fast as well, trying to make plays, just overthinking it a bit. We put KB in a tough spot, coming in as the #1 WR in our offense, all things considered, 1,000 yards and 10 TD's was pretty damn impressive.

Not arguing with you at all.  Just saying that one of his knocks coming out of FSU was concentration issues, and a few too many drops.

During TC last year Igo kept saying he wasn't dropping anything, and I asked if he thought the word on him out of college was wrong, or if he had just gotten better?

Then the season came along, and he still had them.  Not saying it's a bad thing, or criticizing him, just pointing out the obvious.  It is tough for WR's to make great strides in that dept.

Routes...yes, that can be taught and improved upon throughout a WR's career.

Hands....that is an entirely different thing all together. Some guys do develop better hands, but from what I've seen, and read....they are what they are.

KB will probably always have inconsistent hands. That's not a lock, but that's why he fell as far in the draft as he did.

WR'S improving their hands is just like RB'S improving their ball security or a basketball player improving a jump shot.. With consistent hard work it can improve. .

Is Ginn contract guaranteed? Don't be surprised if Philly Brown fights tooth and nail for this position. I think he came on big in the latter part of the season. He IMO will be on the 2015 squad regardless. I would let Cotchery go before I let Brown go.

Ginn is the punt returner ...Brown isn't getting that job..

don't think the draft pick is a lock to make it, unless we take him in the first three rounds

by the same token, I don't think Gettleman would draft someone he didn't think could make the team

I think we take a WR in rounds 1-3 and he makes the team- let's call him Devante "fell down the board" Parker

I see us keeping six

KB

Devante "fell down the board" Parker

Ginn

Philly

Cotch

Boykin

Nothing is guaranteed.   We have signed players in the offseason and they never make it to the roster.  While I believe Ginn will make the roster and the position is his to lose.  I believe they will give Philly his fair shot at winning the PR job and the #3 WR spot.

Well I hope Corey did a lot of improving because last year he was a turn over waiting happen on every punt..

How many of those players received a $1.7m signing bonus?

I won't say Ginn is guaranteed to make the roster but I would be shocked if he didn't. The front office would look stupid for giving that big of a signing bonus and a player not make the roster.

Depending on what type of receiver we draft Bersin might be as likely to make the roster as Brown.

    • If we are going to spend the money anyway, maybe the signing is not as bad as it seems.  Mays outperformed Corbett (before his injury and if you go back to last year, Corbett has been below average) and then Christensen took the job and Mays quickly took it from him and never looked back.  He could use improvement reaching to the next level (LBs) but picking up stunts and blitzes---he was surprisingly good.  Run blocking needs some work, but he is 25.  Corbett, in my view, should be G/C depth and if Mays steps back, he is there.  Mays should start because this team is building for the future and 30 year old players are not building blocks.  We shall see.  That is how I think about it, but there are many factors we do not know. Having said that, I like what Zavala is doing, and I do not want to bring in someone who would take opportunities away from him.  Zavala was really good at RG down the stretch, and in limited duty, was awesome. In fact, we have a guard from the PS who played briefly and did well, but he only played a few plays.  He is 25 and I recall that fans of his former team were upset when we signed him.   Maybe as the backup center only (Corbett).  You need 2 centers to run practices efficiently.  I cannot say enough about the OL coaches on this staff.  What they have done is overshadowed by the Lewis / Hunt signing.  Mays, Ekwonu, Zavala--impressive growth.
