A Question brought up from IGO's latest podcast?

WOW!!

I typically agree with you but this is just absolutely outrageous. His YAC for ONE YEAR (hardly enough to prove anything at all) was due to the Packers' system and an elite QB who threw perfect balls leading him. If McCarthy and the OC truly thought he was that efficient and it wasn't coach speak, then why did he get benched all of last year? He's not nearly better than Philly; that's an absurd suggestion. He's not even much better than Bersin and only has the edge because of ST play. How you can call Philly's ceiling a WR3 is beyond me. Every WR in this league can improve and keep improving and perfect route running alone (don't care about size/speed) could make any WR a WR2. If we don't draft a guy early or sign Jennings you watch and see when Philly wins the WR2 job and goes on to have over 800 yards and 8 TDs.

Well, your and others' undying love for Corey Brown is absolutely outrageous to me. Brown's numbers were extremely pedestrian compared to his draft class, and probably even other WR3s in the league.  I have already listed my misgivings about Philly Brown earlier in the season, so I am loath to go down that road again but here it is again. Brown is JAG! Nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing that he did in his rookie season suggested otherwise. He is marginally fast for a receiver. His hands are not all that. He is small and injury prone, and he is not to be trusted as a return man. He doesn't add anything special to special teams. He doesn't block worth a damn. His YAC was only the smallest bit better than Kelvin Benjamin's even though he is supposedly the much faster and shiftier receiver.  He created hardly any separation, even in his one fair and meddling game of note against the Steelers. I mean, what is it with you people and Corey Brown?  You've become accustomed to low standards is all I can think of.

Boykin got benched because Adams is the much more prolific receiver, and a 1000 times better than his colleague, Corey Brown.  Boykin landed in the doghouse because of early drops and never recovered against the superior talent. It's as simple as that. You are wrong about the perfect balls his 2013 season because Rodgers was hurt for a substantial part of that season, and Boykin did his best work with Seneca Wallace at QB, as well as some with Flynn. Brown wouldn't have even sniffed the field in Green Bay, and shouldn't have been on a field here or anywhere else last year, except for a practice field. There is little chance that Brown is going to ever be anyone's starter, so don't hold your breath.

Just like I am basing Boykin's YAC on one year as you put it (even though he was known for his YAC at Va Tech), it is certainly better than Brown's YAC for one year. Regardless of Boykin's size and strength advantage, not to mention his blocking prowess down field, Boykin is still not a viable option as a WR2. I can admit that.  What you can't admit (at least to yourself) is that Brown is not a viable option as a WR2 either.  You have two undrafted guys who were not drafted for a reason. They are in basically the same boat regardless if you want to admit it or not.  If we go with either as a starter I will be cursing the TV in September.

that all depends, if he was a number 1, 2 or 3 rec maybe not but as the 4th/5th option it is not too bad.

Yes it depends on if you're use to seeing bad WR play... I guess than 23 rec. and 2 td is something to be hyped about...OMG

Please draft some WR so our standards can be better as a fan base DAVE!!!

I'm completely shocked...

If you just started following the Panthers and reading the Huddle a week ago.  You would think Philly Brown was Wes Welker or something..

I just don't get the Brown thing. I hate ragging on players, I really do.  But I just don't understand what he has done other than get some playing time by default because the receiving corps was not up to par.  I just can't think of any other team in the league, and I mean none of them, that would promote Corey Brown as a starter.  Only in Carolina. That's just the truth.

Edit: I mean only on the Huddle. Gettleman is not a mad man.

Igo do you also believe that the type of WR we draft can affect players on the current roster?

Absolutely.

Draft a burner/punt returner? Ginn/Brown on notice.

Possession guy? Cotchery/Bersin/Boykin on notice

Fast guy that can't catch? Hill on notice.

Much less this season now that the other guys have a full year plus playoff experience under their belt.

I really have no idea if Cotchery makes the team. I can see him being a vet cut to make room for a draft pick.

Last question. .

Is the talk up Job they're doing for Hill the same as the one they did for Mccnutt and King last year??
