Would you trade Philip Rivers for Mariota?

If you think Rivers is done, then maybe. If you think he has five good years left in him, then hell no.

If I understand correctly, he's a free agent after this year. And apparently he really doesn't want to play for the team anymore if they move to Los Angeles.

Acee's argument is based largely on the notion that if the team really is likely to move, you'd better get something out of him now while you can.

This story has been around ever since Rivers seemed to balk at resigning.  Some think he wants to head back East with his family.

this move would actually be good for both teams.  Give Tennessee rookie a couple years behind a great QB

Give SD their future QB.  Course all bets are off if Winston is not the first pick

By the way, if this happens on draft day, somebody please have a camera on Chip Kelly.

I feel like there are way too many moving parts for this to happen on draft day. The Titans would want a new contract agreed to before making the trade and almost certainly a physical as well. I suppose all of that could be done in secrecy before the actual draft so it could be executed only if the Bucs take Jameis but I have a hard time believing nothing would leak out.

This hinges on their possible move to LA, as Rivers said he wouldn't play there. It'd be the Chargers getting something out of an unwanted situation, not them trading him for a rookie just because. So if I knew we were going to move then yeah I'd make that trade. Except I wouldn't go for Mariota, I'd just take a bunch of picks or go for Winston. Mariota is going to be trash in this league.

So, five years of great QB play vs. the chance of a draft pick that many people doubt coming in and lighting the world on fire as a rookie?

Think of it this way--would you trade Luck or Newton for Rivers?  No.  Would you dangle RGIII, Manuel, Gabbert, Bortles, Locker, Ponder, Bradford, or Tannehill for his five years of high level play?  These are all guys taken in the first half of the first round in the past five years by teams who are desperately trying to solve their QB problem.

If I'm the Titans and I have the shot, I jump at it.  I keep Mettenberger and coach the poo out of him, and ride Rivers for as long as he will last.  It's about the only thing I have to gain a little job security.
