X-Men: Apocalypse

Sooo... I'm admittedly a huge MCU fanboy.  What they've done has been nothing short of amazing with only a few movies being slightly less than satisfactory (looking at you IM3 and Thor2 and warily ahead to Ant-Man).  With that in mind... comics-wise, the X-Universe was always my bread and butter.  Being a child of the '90's, I loved everything related to the animated series and Wolverine with a passion and collected nearly every title that was X-related.

But, when it came to the movie universes, Fox's X-franchise and Sony's Spidey-verse were a far behind 2a and 2b, in my opinion.  Well... everything's changing there now.  The MCU is still the cream of the crop, but Fox absolutely hit a homerun with Days of Future Past and the Sony/Marvel collaboration announcement of a new Spidey changes a lot.

Fox is presumably setting themselves up with another homerun in the smaller, true-to-comics Deadpool that's coming up next... and I absolutely can't wait for it - but it already has it's own thread.  So, following that is the next installation in the X-Men series and the finale of the 'First Class' trilogy.  There's been lots of announcements lately from Bryan Singer in regards to casting... Sansa Stark will be Jean Grey, we'll finally get a real (Arch)angel courtesy of Ben Hardy... but today's announcement is a huge announcement in my opinion.  We're also getting a real Psylocke (Angel and Psylocke were always two of my favorite characters and favorite X-couple).

I simply CANNOT wait for this now... Olivia Munn will be a perfect Psylocke and finally brings a credible (more than previous incarnations, anyway) actress to the character, which means she'll finally get a real storyline.

THIS GUN BE GOOD

This is where me and you differ.... I love Psylocke for the same reason everyone does. And even though Olivia Munn is smoking hot I just don't think she is that good of an actor. We shall see....

Everything else I am super pumped.

i may have been overly excited when saying she'll be a perfect Psylocke... i agree with you that Munn is not the greatest actress out there, but i'm incredibly excited to see them casting someone on this level because it at least confirms that she'll be a bigger role in the movie and hopefully movies going forward (like the potential X-Force film that has a script floating around - hopefully, with Deadpool... and Cable, and Domino, and...)

they also casted Jubilee and Storm...I'm weary of tatum as Gambit. Never really liked Anna Paquin as rouge either but that's because I was introduced to rouge mainly through the 90s cartoon version which is so different than the film version they went with Anna Paquin.

You know next year we get Deadpool, apocalypse, and Gambit right?

And an X-Men tv series

yeah, I just didn't mention Gambit because i'm a little wary of that title... while I think adding Tatum is probably a good thing for the character and I actually like the actor he's turned into the past couple of years, I don't know how well that character will stand up in a standalone film.  i'm cautiously optimistic... it's such a good character, but we'll at least get to see him in Apocalypse first, so hopefully they'll lay the groundwork for an awesome character

and I haven't heard much on the show itself... we'll see what happens there.  a GenerationX show with Emma teaching young X-characters would be awesome

I hope Cable shows up at some point so he can be a part of the X-Force movie.  it wouldn't feel right without him, imo... but I saw a weird idea/rumor floated a couple of weeks back when Hugh Jackman tweeted that he was getting into the Wolverine character 'one more time' after insinuating he'd like to play it the rest of his life... that he could actually turn into Cable like in the Ultimate comics.

not sure that i'm for or against that idea, but Jackman basically built this franchise.  that would get rid of the Wolverine character that so many 'hardcore' fanboys hate and say take over all the films, introduce a 'new' character so many people are clamoring for and still keep Jackman employed in the X-movies.  plus, a lot of the films are already pulling a lot from the Ultimate comics and with DoFP opening the door for time travel, it wouldn't be a stretch to bring in the idea of alternate dimensions (especially with AoA basically happening now) where Wolverine could have eventually become Cable in another timeline

    • I don't really like the phrase, "moral victory". I get what's meant by it, but does that mean that if you do the opposite (play poorly but win) it's an immoral victory? 🤔
    • I blame Evero because he is overrated. Vance Joseph created the defense in Denver that he took credit for. Wilks ran the ball down his throat and Darnold had a 103.8 rtg.  Last year we were decent in yards allowed, and horrible in everything else. Only reason? We kept giving up good field position.  He's had his choice of players to bring in since his scheme is so "complicated." Maybe he should stop trying to be so fancy like running Cover 4 on 3rd and 1 earlier and focus on fundamentals like tackling. These years of Eric Washington, Phil Snow, and Evero must have gotten you confused on what a real defense looked like. Go back and watch the McDermott and Wilks years- this dude is sofT.
    • I tried to make it a point in the opening post that I don't think the offense is a finished product. I think we still need more talent at WR, better play calling, catch more consistently, elimate ridiculous penalties,  and be more consistency in scoring points. I'm just saying, they look markedly better than last year imo. They have scored 20 or more in 6 games and 30 or more in 2 games. And that's particularly notable considering they only mustered 10 points and 3 points in first 2 games of this year and they got blanked on 0 points two games in a row to wrap up last season . I'd say that's a market improvement.  I'm not crowning them and saying we have a top 10 offense or anything.  I'm comparing them to themselves in recent history.
