Rotoworld ranks Gettleman 9th best GM in NFL

From what I've seen analyzing Belichick in the past, he's not all that great at drafting. He's very good at free agency, though some would say the draw of playing for the Patriots gives him an advantage there.

Well I don't know exactly how you're looking at things, but I see some extremely solid draft picks when I pulled the history.

Belichick is an expert at team chemistry, so though you may not look at his personnel and see what you consider superstars, you have to view them within the context of the team and culture.

Another thing to take into account is that he almost always drafts late in the round which should be another indicator of his ability. Moreover, I think that it's pretty obvious that he builds through the draft as well, and refuses to overpay for anyone's services. If FAs want to go there, they will go on his terms, and they want to go there because they want to win championships.

Having a stud QB sure does cover huge mistakes. Its the bill pollian formula, find a great QB, ???, then profit. Its beyond amazing. I believe bill is best coach in nfl history and they should rename the super owl trophy after him. His draft record is horrible, even tho he has 10+ picks. Its very herniay esque in the middle rounds too,.with 2nd/3rd rounder fail after fail. I agree with daves ranking, he's in that 8-13 range for me in a short two at that given what he walked in too.

It's almost ridiculous how important the QB position is. 8 of the top 10 on that list have a franchise QB. And some might make an argument for the other 2. That position is far and away the most important. Only outliers win Superb Owls with out one. Personally I want Cam over every single one of them except Rodgers at this moment in their careers...and I might be talked into over him too.

Gettleman walked into the best core of players of any GM in NFL history.

I'm surprised the slightly less retarded version of Marty Hurney isn't higher on the list (Loomis - Saints).      He gets a lot of hype for constantly selling out the future of his team by doing one or two "Look at me look at me" moves every offseason.

Loomis and Hurney have nothing in common. Only people that believe they do are Panthers fans.

I'm sorry, I just don't see it. What I see is how Belichick has seemed to markedly improve his drafting skills over time. When I see what he has done in the second and third rounds for the last five to six years it looks pretty solid.

Just because some are no longer with the team doesn't make them bad players. Part of Belichick's strategy is to let younger players walk if he deems them replaceable or upgradable, and let older players walk once their best years or behind. He doesn't overpay anyone.

No one is perfect. I believe that Panthers fans are letting last year's draft totally carry their expectations of what constitutes a successful draft a tad bit out of reality. Anyway, from where I am sitting, Belichick keeps a keen eye on the bigger picture and knows how to keep the yen and yang moving by using the draft, trades and free agency like no one else can' or at least has in the Super Bowl era.

BTW, I don't believe that people should get carried away with thinking that when Tom Brady leaves that Belichick's chinks in the armour are just going to give way. Garropolo looks pretty damned good and ready to take the standard and move forward.
