Rotoworld ranks Gettleman 9th best GM in NFL

Would you put Reese at number eight given the past two years?

It's hard to argue with overall sustained success. You can't be in the thick of things every year. Unless you're Belichick,  you're probably going to have a few down years along the way, particularly if you are beset with injuries, transitioning to a younger team, and your championship ability QB decides to put on an interception showcase.

Let's see--Gettlemen inherits enough to ruin most franchises (dumb contracts, stupid draft moves (that 43 pick for a first rounder went to Everette Brown.  The Armanti pick gets criticized more, but Brown is his dumbestest.) and a $13m debt.

2 years, 2 playoff appearances.  Not only 2, but a playoff run with 8 of Gettlemen's rookies starting or playing key roles.   His only weakness is time--when he has had 4 drafts, he moves to #1.

By the way, Billichick gets the #1 spot for picking Brady with the 199th overall pick.  As long as he is winning super bowls, that one move makes the others insignificant.

Credibility gone with Loomis at 10.

I don't think that's true at all.

Loomis signed a bunch of big money contracts to go for a super bowl the last two seasons (who can really blame him), but he learned pretty quickly that wasn't going to happen and has made a fast switch to change personnel in order to fit Drew Brees' ability in his final few seasons.

He sees that Brees doesn't have the arm strength anymore and is moving towards a power run team to try and win.

I'm kind of agreeing with you. Breesus has 2 years left on his contract and Loomis had to clear $20+ million for the cap. It's a good move to bring in Unger and Spiller while re-signing Ingram to balance that offense with more run game. Have to wait and see what defense help they draft. Bringing in Browner isn't enough.

He controls all the Pats' personnel decisions as well. He's pretty much their GM and head coach.

They've missed the playoffs once in the past 15 years (with an 11-5 record and Matt Flynn as the QB at that IIRC). I'd say he's done a pretty fuging good job.

That is all thanks to Brady, who went years without real weapons at WR or TE before Belicheck fell ass backwards into Gronk and Hernandez. Also thanks to keeping a core of solid defensive players during the early 2000s. And also thanks to arguably the weakest division (AFC South excluded) in the NFL, with only the Jets being good in Sanchez's early years.
