Are we setting ourselves up for disappointment with high draft expectations for Gman?

I think that's kind of his point. We got 5 starters last year. The chances of that happening again are extremely small, but reading around here it's almost as if that is the expectation when in reality that is not normal at all even with the best draft GM's of all time.

then why even bother framing a draft like that up as a relative disappointment or letdown

Holy poo, United's posting will the stuff of legend if he keeps this up.

You know what?  I pied this poo.  Hell, its the off season and nothing goods happening for a couple weeks.  Sure, its cotton candy stuff but I am extremely entertained if not by the OP but by the ensuing comments.  Keep em coming I say.  World class off season thread-meister.

Never buy into the hype.

I'm not saying that Gman doesn't know what he's doing. He's actually one of rhe best GMs in the leagur.

He is human. Humans make mistakes.

He's made a few already but with late rounders, so the risk isn't high.

In the to0 rounds, he doesn't go out on a limb.

That being said, life teaches one to temper their expectations. This all9ws for less disappointment, and more realistic expectations on a consistent basis.

I've got to hand it to you PU, no matter how many times people keep shitting on you and your threads, you take it like a pro and keep churning these out.

Your dedication to your craft is nothing if not admirable.

I love what I do and take it on the chin for the team, what can I say :)

Gaffney was a good pick, just a major F up when it came to managing roster space. Kugbila may not be a terrible pick either, if he could just stay healthy.

Yep Barner is his only 'bad' pick, and he was a 6th rounder so whatever...

I think everyone has a pretty realistic hope for draft day. Most here want to see Getts draft the best player available in each round. They expect the first round pick to be a starter, or at least a guy who takes a high amount of snaps. (Like a rotational DE) Infact, many would love a WR in the first that would be considered our #2. Which is basically a starter. Most expect the 2nd and 3rd rounders to be solid contributors or future contributors, even if they don't start. (Rotational DE or DT/2nd WR/future lineman/RB). Then 4-7 are pretty much special teams guys that may have potential to be more. I believe most would expect Getts to hit on at least one of those guys. Drafts are far from a sure thing, even in the first round. To me, what I described is pretty solid. Two day one, complete full starters is a little high to expect every time, but I think Getts can do it. However, I won't be completely shocked if it doesn't happen.
