Are we setting ourselves up for disappointment with high draft expectations for Gman?

First off, Gman has been a hell of a GM since arriving. Like most on here allude to, back to back NFC south champs for first time in history is a great start. He has found some gems in FA and when it comes to the draft he has been spot on in the first two rounds in each draft since he has been here and last year he did great beyond rounds and 2. My point is Gman has been aces for the most part.

Now with all this being said, this post is aimed for the hubris and over confidence of some a Panther fans that might just have too high of expectations and could be set up for disappointment. I hear a lot of fans talk like it's a foregone conclusion we will be drafting studs in the 1st few rounds with Gman calling the shots. I hear comments like "Three 5th round picks for Gman?! That's almost like have extra 2nd and 3rd rounders with Gman." Or "No doubt in my mind that Gman will hit home runs atleast in the first few rounds." Those are just a couple examples.

My point is, yes overall Gman has done well, however we have a VERY small sample size to go off since he only has two drafts unde his belt. Let's not forget that for Train Turner, Bene Benwekiere and Tre Boston I can also point to Edmund Kugbila, Kenjon Barner and Tyler Gaffney. Again, not Gman's fault, he is only human despite being a great GM that he is becoming.

I guess what I'm trying to say is I just hope some of us don't have these very lofty expectations that we are going to walk in on draft day and come away with three or 4 studs with pro bowl potential just because. My expectations? I feel with this current average to above average draft class Gman will nab two very solid starters in the 1st two rounds and very solid depth in rounds 3 and 4 and the rest of the rounds being a crap shoot. I feel my expectations are grounded and realistic and I just hope many of my fellow Panther brethren don't have too lofty of expectations.

The dude has been a scout for nearly 1/5 of all super bowl teams. He knows what he's doing.

E: poo I didn't mean all sub 100 super bowl teams but he's been part of very good organizations that have been in nearly 1 in 5 super bowls. Bills in the 90s, broncos in late 90s, and giants in the 2000s. Trust nipple shorts is what I'm trying to say

that would be a very good draft by almost anyone's standards dude

I think that's kind of his point. We got 5 starters last year. The chances of that happening again are extremely small, but reading around here it's almost as if that is the expectation when in reality that is not normal at all even with the best draft GM's of all time.

and this would be a bad thing how?

2 solid starters + 2 solid depth guys = solid draft.

not sure what the problem with that is unless you expect every year to be the addition of 5+ starters and anything less is a disappointment.

Frankly I wish some of you would make one thread a day and keep things fresh.. If I see that "Panthers talk to Greg Jennings" thread on the front page one more time! lol

That's your problem. Making a thread a day doesn't "keep things fresh" when there's nothing to talk about. It just creates useless discussion. This is why ESPN sucks now.

It also doesn't help that your reputation for not bringing anything "fresh" to the table precedes you.

Greg Jennings, Todd Gurley, etc are ongoing Panthers related situations and therefore there is still lots of discussion.
