I got faith in BIG MIKE! A little background on Michael Oher.

I really wanted to sign Oher last year and we showed interest, but the Titans gave him dumb money.  Glad we got him.  No, I don't think he's Walter Jones by a long shot, but he was about as good as we could honestly expect to land in the free agent market with the money we had to spend.  Getting Jonathan Martin as well is icing on the cake.  At minimum, those two guys are better than Byron Bell and David Foucault, so even if they aren't great we've still upgraded the OT roster.

Unlike some, I'm not overly excited about the prospects of Mike Remmers at RT for the long haul. Many were pretty excited about the way Bell played as a rookie and to be fair, he performed admirably for a UFA thrust into a starting OT spot, but he never really improved.  He just has a low athletic ceiling.  The same is likely true of Remmers.  I think he can be serviceable, but it wouldn't hurt my feelings if we still sought to upgrade that position.

Ideally, our starting OTs this coming season will come from a battle royale between Oher, Martin, Remmers, and a rookie taken in the top three rounds of the draft.  That's something I'd feel pretty decent about.  Both starters and backups.  Certainly better than last year's OT situation.

I'm not sure about the Rem-man either, but what I do know is he played better for us last year than Bell ever did in his career. So even if that's his ceiling, it's better than Bell. If we can find a LT that can play like Gross did in 2013, our line as a whole with Remmers on the right would be significantly better than 2013... And 2013's line was good enough for us to compete in the playoffs. Can't all have a Cowboys-caliber line.

The guy has definitely overcome a lot of adversity in his life and has been a huge success. Got a D1 college scholarship, went onto become a 1st round NFL draft pick, and has made millions playing football.

That still doesn't mean he's going to be an effective LT for us.

The difference being that it was reported that Remmers actually graded out pretty well overall. I don't ever remember Bell grading out anything more than mediocre. Perhaps someone with a PFF subscription can offer up some numbers.

Yeah, don't get me wrong, Remmers is definitely better than Bell ever was.  Not sure how he graded out game by game, but it seemed to me like he was beginning to get exposed a little down the stretch.  Then again, maybe some of that had to do with the help we were having to slide toward Bell.  On virtually every passing play, we had a back there to help chip the DE for Bell.

I'm good with the signing for what we gave him. But LT is still very much as big a question mark as it was before.

With Bell we at least knew that he was not starting material. Unfortunately we dragged it out a lot longer than we needed to. For Oher, it could go either way. Obviously I'm hoping he revitalizes his career here, but we need a backup plan just in case.

With as many picks as we have in this years draft, we should be able to help our offense out some.

I really hope that Gettleman isn't putting too much stock in either Oher or Martin.  There's a reason why both were available and within our shopping budget.  If they work out or even one works out, it's just a big bonus.  Like I said, I'll gladly take Oher and Martin over Bell and Foucault, so I do feel like our OT roster has been upgraded compared to last year, but I hope we aren't sitting there thinking OT is no longer a need because we've signed a couple of former high draft pick disappointments.

I'm hopeful but I'm not holding my breath. OT is still, by far, our biggest need. Look at Cam, what he means to us...not even on a contract yet. Got slaughtered and injured for 2/3rds of the year. This is coming from someone who believes Cam hold onto the ball too long. But I realize the big issue. What shiny new WR is going to address this issue? Not smart to have Oher go in with Bell 2.0 as his only competition. I'd only go WR if literally all Ts worth a crap are gone.
