NFL.com: 7 teams with most obvious 1st-round draft need (Panthers #4)

Decent chance the BPA is an OT

last year, there were only 3 OTs getting mentioned in the 2nd half of the 1st R mocks: Ja’Wuan James, Morgan Moses, and Cyrus Kouandjio, and not in all of the mocks (neither Ja'Wuan or Moses made Peter King's final mock, Kouandjio didn't make Walter Football's final mock, neither Ja'Wuan or Kouandjio made Matt Miller's final mock, Ja’Wuan didn't make McShay's final mock, Moses didn't make Mike Florio's final mock, etc). Ja'Wuan turned out to be pretty good and Gettleman said we liked him

This year you have 5 OTs getting mentioned in the 2nd half of the 1st R or higher in pretty much every mock so far:

La'el Collins

DJ Humphries

Andrus Peat

TJ Clemmings

Ereck Flowers

and there is a 6th OT many think is being criminally underrated in Jake Fisher

then you have wildcards in Cameron Erving (who played both C and LT last year) and Cedric Ogbuehi (coming off a torn ACL)

The Panthers don't see two of the top three in that list as first round material.

I'm betting those two are Humphries and Collins?  I like Collins a lot, but not sure he has the measurables Dave wants in an OT.  That man loves his hog mollies and if there's a hog molly at OT in this draft, it's Flowers.

I haven't seen much out of Humphries to be impressed about.  IMO, he's this year's version of Morgan Moses.  A guy who was being projected as a mid-round pick for most of the pre-draft process, but then "shot up draft boards" after the combine.  Seems like most of these guys who "shoot up boards" often end up going right around where they were thought to belong all along.  Gotta remember, you can't believe a thing coming from teams this time of year.  Highly likely to be misleading info.  No one wants anyone else to know anything about how they view prospects.

They may have been told that, doubt if it's true. More likely disinformation to the media to try to get them taken before who they really want.

Possible or it's just difference of opinion. Draft analysts are pretty split on him too. Some love him and some don't. Wouldn't be surprising if it was the same way with teams.

a simple google search would let you know that is false.

Okay link king, must have been earlier than I thought when he "shot up boards".

Either way, there was definitely a time period when he supposedly rocketed from a mid-round pick to a near 1st round lock, except that it was obviously a bunch of misinformation getting fed to the media "analysts".

FWIW Daniel Jeremiah was the first guy on the DJ Humphries bandwagon putting him in the 1st round in his pre-combine mock and high in his rankings. He said the reason for his late rise was because he hadn't gotten to his tape yet since he wasn't expected to declare. Whether that's true or someone fed him something is unknown. Humphries did get a return to school recommendation from the draft advisory team which I think means a 3rd or later grade. The word on him is mostly about potential and how he has all the traits of a franchise LT.
