Tavaris Jackson?

The Vikings thought so much of him they replaced himn with a banged up 40 year old.

Miami thought so much of McCown they traded him for a very late pick.

NO thought so much of Jake they played Brooks.

:D

Plus, the Vikings have been trying to get Favre for a while now. The fact that they pursued and landed him doesn't really speak much to their judgement.

Edit: I agree about the cap. Don't even bother unless DT is done.

The Vikings thought so much of him they replaced him with a banged up 40 year old and Sage Rosenfels.

Doubt I'd want a QB who couldn't beat out Sage Rosnefels for a roster spot.

Add in that we have way more pressing needs.

They were in competition for the starting job before Brett Favre was signed. Sage looked good last year also, in relief of Matt Schaub. Tarvaris looked very good at the end of last year.

Like in that game where they were up by a couple touchdowns over the Colts with very little time left and he helped engineer a comeback?

(For the Colts, that is)

Mobile does not equal good. People always want a shiny new toy at QB even when it's a luxury rather than a need, and even if the "new toy" isn't appreciably better, just different.

I remember people chanting "we're saved" when David Carr came in too.

You do it because it is an upgrade over McCown and Moore. I think he could be a good player here if given the time to learn, he is still young. He was having a very good offseason in Minnesota. I don't think he would be a savior, but an upgrade.

I agree with you about having to get Leonard, or some other DT, but I was justing using that to put this in perspective. Jackson wouldn't be a huge impact on the team this year, unless Delhomme got hurt, but he would be an option in the future without having to give up alot.

Im not in love with Jackson, just wanted to discuss how low of an asking price this is.

I understand where your coming from but do you think Jackson is a good enough talent to where we would change our system to accomadate his strengths.

Of course my argument is based on the assumption that Fox/Hurney are here past this season, and I guess with them signing off on the trade we would have to assume this. But I just don't think Jackson has shown that he can be a pocket passer just there to manage the offense.

I don't disagree that he's better then Moore or McCown head to head but thats with his intangibles added in. I just think when you try to contain him in an offense as the Vikings have done and try to limit his spontaneous plays he makes too many mistakes.

If we had an offense where we rolled the QB out and moved the pocket arnd more he may fit well, but I don't see our coaching staff making those changes.

Just because one backup flopped doesn't mean they all will. Fox/Hurney are the ones who brought Carr in, not fans. Everyone (including the front office) hoped he was just shell-shocked, but nope.

Our QB situation after Delhomme is pretty bad. DT is a much bigger need and needs to be addressed first, but depth is something they'll work on regardless. All I'm saying is that he's an upgrade to our #2 and #3 and would be worth a 6th.

Look at Kaevisasdlkajsdfasdf the safety. Not really an upgrade, but decent depth in case the poo hits the fan. Spent some money on him despite needing DT help more.

I'm not chanting "saved" or anything like that, just that he is a value for a sixth round pick. If he can be had for that price, I would pull the trigger immediately. Tarvaris showed flashes of brilliance last year, 9 TDs to only 2 INTs, a 95 QB rating and great mobility. You can hardly argue that he isn't better than every non-Jake quarterback on our team. I do realize that there are more pressing needs, but we honestly do need a QB of the future and we also need an upgrade to our backup QB situation.

didn't carr have "potential" when he came here?

Only to the David Carr fans.

Very few people bother to think about the system or the ramifications. To be brutally honest, thinking beyond just whether he looks good on Sportscenter highlights is pretty rare.

Ravens cut loose Cleo Lemon too. How long before we have a thread saying he's better than what we have now and suggesting we pick him up?

Lemon would not be an upgrade. Jackson is a starting caliber qb. Don't assume someone doesn't know anything about football because you disagree with their opinion

Have you people flinging out random poo about Jackson watched him play lately? He has looked very very solid from the end of last season into this preseason. Hell yes I would pick him up if the price was right? You honestly dont think that he would be an upgrade over the two guys we have as backups right now?
