People we have 2 young DT'S we will have to pay soon enough. . You can't run with the system of sign your own drafted talent. .. if you put high round picks into 1 position all the time..

When i read the title of this thread i thought it meant Trey Flowers DE Arkansas. He and Ereck Flowers OL Miami are close as prospects and Trey might very well be the better pro. Thread on Trey in the Draft forum:

DT is an enormous need. Our DT rotation is two young guys and two guys in their mid-thirties. Need at least one young DT enormously, but two really.

As for OT, we just signed two ex 1st/2nd R picks and Martin has good potential. That's a big need too, but Flowers is projected by many to OG and we need OTs

Flowers is a huge block of pre-mo clay, that's needs a master to mold him into a OT. Its all there, just need time.

We have two young DTs. That's it. Dwan and Cole are old and out of the two Dwan is the only consistenlly competent one. Cole just eats space. We need another DT.

 

Say Star's injury happens earlier? Then what? Cole is the starter and our run D is even worse?

 

Goldman can rush the passer and stuff the run. My biggest problem with this is I'd like my 1st round pick to be a starter, not a rotational guy. Goldman's a better prospect easily, and he'd fill a need, but the problem is taking him in the 1st if there's possible starter at another position there. Can't deny he has a strong chance at being bpa at 25.

Flowers by a wide marging, he is a top 15 player. Goldman is outside the top 20.

Kyle Love is a UT, not a NT. Not to mention  hes not guaranteed to be on the roster. He's yet to stick anywhere.

Flowers fits the need but Goldman seems like a better talent. Goldman can help keep our d-line super nasty with the loss of Hardy. Keeping that unit relentless is important.

My point being most of your back-ups can't be 1st round talents...

We already have resources in that position. . We don't have a early round pick dedicated to the Secondary or Oline on the roster. .

He played ONE game. Did we settle on DJ Campbell just because he had a decent stretch?

They signed him back for a reason and Frank Alexander only played 1game as well.

My point being most of your back-ups can't be 1st round talents...

We already have resources in that position. . We don't have a early round pick dedicated to the Secondary or Oline on the roster. .

The difference being that the third and fourth DTs on this team usually play nearly as much as the defacto starters and won't just be bench warmers like most other positions backups.
