Cedric Ogbueih question. .

WOW!!

What draft boards are you privy to?

Media ones. The same ones that had him as a consensus top 10 pick before the season. They aren't perfect but they are generally pretty good and most of the time reflect the opinions of NFL teams.

The same media big boards that had Ja'Waun James as a third rounder or Jarvis Landry as a late fourth?

James was a consensus 2nd rounder that many teams felt the Dolphins reached on.

Landry was considered to be a late 2nd, early 3rd round pick.

That's one board. I was assuming you meant just an average ranking across a number of boards.

Also, your supporting the media boards from a month ago with Ogbuehi slipping, but the ones that now have him as a potential first are wrong? Which is it? This just in: Teams don't care what the media says, their boards have the players that fit their system. I have no doubt that a high number of teams have Ogbuehi as a first, and have for sometime. Also, if James wasn't taken by Miami (or any other team before 28) he was going to be the Panthers first round pick.

All it takes is one GM and team to disagree and everything else becomes invalid.

Beyond the top 10-15 picks or so, mocks become just about useless.  They're always wildly inaccurate for mid-rounders.  Every year, there are guys who were supposed to go undrafted go as high as the 3rd round and guys who were supposed to go in the 3rd round who go undrafted.

Those are just the first two I found on google.

Mayock had Landry 57th and James 60th - http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000346744/article/2014-nfl-draft-mike-mayocks-top-100-prospects

Minutes after the pick was made one NFLexecutive instantly texted the words "REACH!" when asked to provide his assessment.

Gil Brandt had James as his 38th ranked player, Landry not listed in the top 50 - http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000341084/article/gil-brandts-top-50-prospects-for-the-2014-nfl-draft

Not arguing that.

Mocks are useless outside of the top 5 picks most of the time but where the media ranks players is generally pretty accurate. Most of those guys are former scouts who get fed information from teams and in general when they miss on a guy really badly it is either due to character issues or non-public injury issues like what happened to Tiny Richardson. Both of Tiny's knees needed to be reconstructed due to defects or something that was picked up at the combine and it never became public just how bad it was so he was considered as a 1st or 2nd round player who ended up going undrafted.

Does James still seem like a reach now?

Attempting to grade drafts right after the draft is fool's gold at best.

Hard to tell. He excelled as a rookie at RT but struggled pretty badly when forced to move to LT due to injuries. He was considered to be a 2nd round player because he never played LT in college so projecting a move to LT was difficult and RT's aren't as coveted.

RTs may not be as highly coveted, but really good ones often go in the 1st round.

Usually because a team projects them as a potential LT which is what Miami and apparently the Panthers did.

The fact is that Ogbuehi was considered to be a top 10 pick by absolutely everyone going into the 2014 season, but after struggling very badly at LT and even being moved back to RT by Texas A&M he had fallen to a late 1st-early 2nd grade in the media prior to his injury, which is highly likely to be a sentiment shared by many teams. That doesn't mean he won't be a 1st rounder, but teams telling media they still have him as a 1st rounder is just as likely to be a smokescreen as we are in the prime season for teams trying to manipulate the draft through the media.

Or Tiny was just a really shitty football players and NFL teams weren't fooled by hype.

Not necessarily.  If you have a major need at RT and you think there's a guy on the board who is a potential top NFL RT, I think most teams would take him at #19.  Here recently, we've been seeing some OGs going in the top 10.  A few years ago that would've been unheard of.
