Oh don't get me wrong. MKG is a wonderful defender (that's about all he can do) but don't over hype him like he's going to be our center piece for the next 10 years. To me he's just as expendable as anybody else on this team. But we can't do that

The truth lies somewhere between this and what most people think.

Here's the thing, though. They're only getting rid of the players with limited ceilings and only go after the BPA (people forget that the Sixers wanted to try to move up and get Wiggins last year and settled for Embiid.) I don't see them moving on from Noel, Embiid, or the rights to Saric. Everybody knew MCW was the byproduct of a terrible rookie class, so, while he still held some value, the Sixers shipped him off for the Lakers pick which could be as high as 6 in this much better draft and even higher as it loses protection going forward. They also have Miami's first and OKC's, depending on if the Thunder make the playoffs and how far they go. Not to mention the ton of 2nd round picks they are famous for accumulating and their own pick.

So, let's say they get pick 3 in this draft. That's a prime spot to select DeAngelo Russell. If it's lower than that, they have the flexibility to trade up to get him or select someone else as they continue to build the roster. All of a sudden, going into next season, the Sixers have a starting five of:

PG: Russell

SG: Booker (Miami pick)

SF: (Saric? Probably doesn't come over from Europe yet)

PF: Noel

C: Embiid

Not to mention the Lakers pick and others going forward to build off what would be a really high-ceiling young core. There's not a GM in the world that would take MCW over DeAngelo Russell right now.

That's the kind of analytical, forward-thinking general managing we thought we were getting in Cho, but it looks to just be more of the same. How much of it is MJ's influence I suppose we'll never know, but this is a prime example of why you don't build around mid-level talent, especially as a small market where the free agent options are limited as it is.

Oh well, better luck next rebuild...

i agree with every thing you're saying but I dong see saric as an SF

MKG is by far the best player on the team..... he should be the 3rd or 4th piece on a good team. Tells you all you need to know.

Exactly.

Folks take this as a slight against MKG but it's not. It's the reality of the talent level on the team. The problem is we're so desperate for a legitimate star player that we make mid-level players like Walker, Jefferson, MKG, Lance into stars without really seeing them for what they are, which is decent role players on contenders, not first options.
