NFL says they're firing their worst officials

Unless they fire the majority then they didn't fire the bad ones. But really there is so many problems with not just the officials but the entire system that they are part of. No oversight that works, no consistency, and no player or owners or game casters can really call them out that much without penalties or punishment.

I'm intrigued to see the names.

Wonder if the ref who ruled on Dez Bryant's non-catch will be one of them. Or the guy who picked up that final flag when we beat the Patriots.

Those were both the right calls. They should have been promoted or given a bonus if anything. Not the popular calls, going against the two popular teams, but the right ones.

Talk about a thankless second job. It's gotta be a tough job but without the threat of dismissal there is little motivation to get better.

The $175,000 annual salary for part time work should be enough thanks and motivation alone.

I've never really encountered anyone ever that did a better job because they knew they couldn't get fired.

I think Gene Steratore (sp?) is pretty solid as far as refs go. And by solid I mean I don't recall wanting to smash him after a game, which is more than I can say for most refs.

Edit: and I think Steratore did the Dez non-catch, which going by the current rules, was absolutely the right call.
