RUMOR: Panthers looking to move up to 16-20th pick

It's really pure speculation and Gettleman won't make this move until draft day if he does go that route. I think the Panthers will stay put at 25 and hope someone like Peat or Flowers fall in their laps. The only way Gettleman makes this deal if WR or OT start flying off the board if that's who they are targeting in the first round. But I think we are going to stand still at 25.

He probably discusses tentative, hypothetical deals with those teams in the event the draft unfolds in a manner that makes him want to jump up.  Instead of going for a player projected to be there at 16-20, he could be considering options in the event a top 10 player falls to 16, for example.

I am assuming OT, but Collins could be the target.

And nobody is thinking DE....

That's because, in my opinion anyway, there are no 1st round 4-3 DEs in this draft.

But hey, anything's possible.  Maybe he thinks Preston Smith really is worth a 1st...he's the closest thing.

same

but i do think that landon collins will be the guy. gut feeling

I want him to be and if he's there at 25 I think he'll be the pick, but I really don't see him falling. This is gonna be a great draft.

Hard to see the G-Man moving up in the first when it will cost so much. Only way I see it happening is if the guys the Panthers really like starting going fast and its clear that at least one will not fall to 25. Even still, I doubt any trades happen before the 3rd or 4th round, where it will cost less to trade up.

I don't see it either, but I was going on some comment Gettlemen made around February.  I have not even been researching them.

Gonna be a fun one to watch unfold, that is for sure.

As for the other posters talking about predictions--I predicted Thomas Davis and Luke Kuechly.  Those are about the only two (aside from Cam) I have guessed correctly.

This year, I see Collins and Thompson as defensive possibilities, with Flowers and Strong the offensive possibilities.

I doubt DG plans for the draft will be leaked on twitter as a rumor.

You can't talk to anyone without it risking it being leaked and to be sure this wouldn't be his only plan. A smart man sets up contingencies to plan for all scenarios. Gauging the cost of trading up is one of those contingencies.

Can only draft so many players.   Could see the Panthers packaging the first/third and fifth round pick to move up.

9 rookies is a lot, sure. But I can see 9 current players getting displaced easily. Cotchery, Bersin, Brandon Williams, either Dwan or Cole, Horton, Harper, Lester, Melvin White, and Carrington Byndom. Then there's the numbers game on the O-line with some of Martin, Foucault, Chandler, Scott, Falkert, Silatolu, and Kugbila staying and the rest going.

Wouldn't mind seeing 9 fresh faces plus however many UDFAs to take most of these spots and cut ties with as much dead weight as possible. Will set us up with a solid roster that will make deep playoff runs for the forseeable future.

    • He made some excellent throws but he always has made some excellent throws here and there. I don't know what to think, which is what I was apprehensive about. Is he going to have a decent downfield game? Because okay Legette dropped one, but someone was giving stats prior to the bye or during it where he had two downfield completions and one of them was the jump ball that is just launched and fingers are crossed that our guy comes down with it, and yesterday we saw that again. The Russell Wilson school of downfield passing.  I don't feel like that is sustainable, but at the same time you have to do Something to make the defense understand they have to defend that downfield throws. Like i said, confused.  I guess I'm going to review the game for myself and look closely at his mechanics and stuff because if he actually fixed that stuff it explains the better throws. And that has been my biggest objection, or what I see as the thing that makes or breaks his chances, that unorthodox dropback and tippy toe action and not having his feet set which limits velocity etc etc.
    • The negative Nancy in me (or objective?) says that they had a bye week to prepare for the Chiefs. However, it’s one thing to have a good plan and it’s another to actually execute it. For all the flack he’s received (from me as well), Bryce seemingly has put his head down and worked his tail off and his play is giving me hope. The first 18-game Bryce showed no progression whatsoever. He gets benched, comes back, and has shown steady progress every week he has started. I think I’m starting to see what the Bryce lovers and unconditional defenders were saying all along, and I hope he can show that on a regular basis for the sake of our QB1 position.
    • Yeah, we could still very well end up 4-13 with the 2nd pick.   I think LVR has the inside track for 1, with only a JAX team as a team on docket that could be beatable.
