One of the most important parts of what Gettleman has done is that he has picked up folks who were JAG (Just A Guy) on other teams and given them a chance to shine. A few of these have held down starting positions and others have filled in remarkably as spot/situation players.

 

Those guys aren't expensive and they are loyal as heck to the team. In the long run, that pays off. Whoever is doing our scouting for this type of player must be one of the best in the league.

Mr scot, maybe you could do this. I was going to, but didn't want a huddle welcome. You could do it in this thread, you almost have.

25 years or younger talent dave got for "free". No draft picks and only low salaries(min, but not counting SB ). Made the 53 at some point and are still currently a panther.

Off the dome; lester, horton, fozzy, white, jacobs, craveman, glanton, brown, and norwell. I believe that's tops in league, or id like to see if there's a team with better cheap young players (with little investment form 2013-15).

Edit: how could I forget the goat stephen hill........ lol and I believe b williams just turned 26.....

I do remember something about the average age of our team being younger, so it's worth checking.

Saw an item just recently that said the oldest team in the league is John Fox's Bears. I remember thinking nobody would be surprised to hear that

There are going to be some serious camp battles without even considering the draft picks.  These are some of the position battles that I am looking forward to watching already.

I'm one of those sickos that checks on the roster too much. On the team website you can click on the age and its puts it in order. At one point during the season, I swear 50% of the team was 25 or younger. I missed the texas CB carrington, he was another "free" guy dave got. Wasn't on the roster to start with, but during the big mid-season change he replaced cason. Played some in STs, plus some garbage time.

Poor fox at some point in his career, some rookies must have gave him a heart attack. Then fox thought "never again"...... I understand his point, rookies will get you fired faster than proven vets. Still its a young man game, get with the times or sit in your lazy boy.

Half of those guys wouldn't be starting on most teams.

Yet they seem to have excelled here. No doubt you are probably right but I believe many can continue to grow. I suspect some will be supplanted by another person with more talent but they stand a very good chance of being a solid contributor on this or another NFL squad.

This is why I have no worries going forward roster wise.

Personnel decisions ...another story though.

I believe he's actually talking about things like setting the depth chart and coaching staff, areas in which you'd have to admit Rivera has been a tad suspect.

Columbus hasn't been around long, but from what I've seen so far I think he's a good poster.
