I don't think the secondary is in that bad of shape.

It's an unpopular opinion though.

I don't think our secondary is horrible, but I don't think they're great either.  As long as we can maintain a strong front seven, we don't necessarily have to have a Seahawks caliber secondary.  I like our starting CBs and if Boston can continue to develop, I like him at safety.  I'd still like to see the other safety spot and nickelback positions receive upgrades though.

Pass rush helps that secondary a lot, when it's there.

Depending on how much you believe in Ealy, I could argue DL is the bigger question mark.

We still ranked 13th in the NFL in sacks last season with 40.  The #1 defense in the NFL (Seahawks) ranked 20th with 37.  We were only 1 sack and 2 sacks behind the #2 and #3 defenses in the NFL last season in sacks (Lions were #2 overall defense and #8 in sacks with 42 and the Broncos were the #3 overall defense and #9 in sacks with 41).  Between 35 sacks and 45 sacks covered rankings 6-24.

And we did that with a rookie at one DE spot, a Big Money who was hobbled for a good bit of the early going, and Star who also missed several games and was hampered by injury quite a bit.  The pass rush really picked up as the season progressed.

Now, I'd rather add an elite pass rusher than an elite DB, but overall, I think the secondary as a whole is a bigger question mark than the DL.

Which begs the question, how good do you think Kony will be this year?

Adding an elite CB would arguably result in more sacks for the defense than adding an elite DE would. Giving the DL we already have a little extra time to get to the QB would in all likelihood be more productive than adding another DE into the rotation would be.

That's the million dollar question. Hopefully pretty good. The fact that 3 of his 4 sacks came in the last 3 weeks of the season bodes well, but then again, he did go sackless in our 2 playoff games so who knows?

We've had the whole "pass rush vs coverage" debate on here before.

Shall I assume you come down on the coverage side?

(for the sake of full disclosure, did you ever play DB?)

The Seahawks have the best secondary in the NFL and finished 20th in sacks.

Yeah we need one more corner to pair with Norman and bene. Melvin white just can't cut it as a starter

I haven't written off White completely yet. He has the measurables and his 2013 season gives me hope that he can return to that form.
