Cedric Still Going In The First?

If I believed he could be a top tackle for the next ten years after one year off, I'd do it.

This, and Zierlein's sources seem to suggest teams have asked themselves that question, and the answer is "yes". Are we one of those teams? Who knows, but I do find it odd that Gettleman mentioned Cedric specifically during his end of the season presser.

He struggled a lot after moving to LT to replace Matthews. Many "experts" started with him as a top 10 pick and by the end of the year he was near the end of the 1st. He allowed 7 sacks in 13 games last year. That's Byron Bell-esque. I'd take him in the 3rd because he does have potential, but he is a product of hype rather than production.

I remember that.

My thought at the time was that maybe he was better on the right than the left.

Matthews played pretty good for a rookie on Atlanta's terrible team. If you're saying we can get a Matthews type player at 25, I'm for it. Ogbuehi was projected, before the acl injury, to be a better prospect than Matthews as well.

Matthews did NOT play Well for a rookie. PFF grated him out as the worst tackle in the league even though he missed a game.

I pray to God that the NFL teams are just saying that he has a 1st round grade, and the tweeter misinterpreted it. When was the last time a team took a guy in the 1st round that they knew couldn't play that year?

If we take him over the other 4 that Zod talked about the other day, I'll lose my poo.

There's also a lot of smokescreening going on at this time of year. Teams could very well just be saying this in order to tempt another team to take him early in order to push another prospect down the board. It's a particularly effective strategy when you're dealing with guys who have injury or character concerns that have lowered their draft stock. If a team was targeting a player like that and were hoping he would fall, they might take him earlier than they originally anticipated to make sure they get their guy.

This could very well be a case like that. Teams feed BS rumors to the media around draft time and the media is happy to run with them because they can get some quid pro quo on a bigger story later. I'm 99% sure Gettleman and his front office stay out of that altogether but the media can be an effective tool if used properly.

PFF grades for the OL do not tell the whole story. He was a rookie playing on a terrible overall line.

If he was in this draft, I would take him at 25 in a heartbeat. The jury is still out but I think Matthews will be a solid pro for a decade for Atlanta.

Agreed. I know the "experts" say he has prototypical LT size and all that but I just don't see a 1st round LT in him at all. He played well at RG next to Jake when he played RT. But he struggled a lot at LT and his effort was seriously questioned as he seemed to be another one of those guys waiting for the draft already. I don't want that type of player here, it screams of a guy that will pack it in as soon as he gets paid. 7 sacks for a college LT is a lot too.

I really struggle with Peat too, he seems to spend a lot of time on the ground to me, losing his balance and diving at the feet to cut block guys he should be blowing up..

I will remember Mathews most for the block Norman put on him as Boston scored his TD. It was as glorious as the one Bell put on Patrick Peterson.
