In the early morning hours of Oct. 5, as this college town was celebrating another big football victory by Florida State University, a starting cornerback on the team drove his car into the path of an oncoming vehicle driven by a teenager returning home from a job at the Olive Garden.

 

Both cars were totaled. But rather than remain at the scene as the law requires, the football player, P. J. Williams, left his wrecked vehicle in the street and fled into the darkness along with his two passengers, including Ronald Darby, the team’s other starting cornerback.

 

Yeah.  Not the sharpest knife in the drawer.  Kid is costing himself major money and possibly a solid future.

Eh I'm willing to bet he falls no more than 15 draft spots to the mid to late 2nd rd. I only saw one mock that had him in the first and that was at 27 to Dallas.

 

Did he cost himself some money and some spots? Yeah. Will it result in a freefall? Not even close. On a side note, I'm willing to bet he ran from that first accident because he was drunk at the time. If I were a team I would treat this as a 2nd DUI. But that's me. I just don't think teams will think of this as that bad.

 

But I could be wrong. And it's not the first time I've been called a dumbass.

I've crucified no one "for allegedly threatening a woman" nor did I  "defend DUI and play it off as a minor misjudgment".

 

What I said was that I don't think teams treat a one time DUI as that serious of an offense. That the media and the public will be upset about it but that would pass relatively quickly and, in the end, this event for this kid will not hurt him all that much. You can white knight yourself about how many people are killed every year by DUIs every year and how awful it is as a decision that can kill others and yourself...but you're out of line to characterize my comments in a way that fits the point you want to make.

 

You want to say that DUIs are awful and those that commit them are beneath your respect? Go right ahead. But don't put words in my mouth to make your proclamation.

Yeah, combine this with the recent arrest and his draft stock is definitely taking a beating.  He may even be off of some draft boards at this point.

I disagree that DUI is a serious offense. It is a misdemeanor and unless there was an accident or some other injury then it's not a big ddeal. Again if it isn't part of a pattern.

 

Now on the PR side? Yeah it's a hiccup and everyone will be all grim faced and serious about it. And then it will be forgotten almost immediately as the next failed drug test or woman beating story comes out. As long as it is a one time occurrence...not a big deal. In my never to be humble opinion.

Hope he drops- if not the NFL teams are a joke, they are not playing no more with that. I am tired of people thinking its just minor. People are killed( mothers, fathers, kids, grandmas, grandpas) cause this careless action.

I said it's not a "serious offense". You said "minor misjudgement". I then explained how in the eyes of the law that it is a misdemeanor and that in the eyes of public opinion it is more serious but even still, not as serious as other crimes. But you want to hyperbolicly bring in the Hardy situation, tie it to what I was saying about how teams view this and then throw in some statistics about how horrible DUIs are and your opinion of how much you respect them.

 

I read that as poor reading comprehension and hyperbole.
