Will our cap wealth next season change Gettleman?

I think the main change will be that when he brings in a Mike Mitchell, it will be for a 2-3 year contract instead of a cheap one year "prove it" deal.  Most high priced FA's don't work out, and the best route to winning is to draft your playmakers and plug your holes with serviceable and affordable veterans.  That's what he's been doing since he's arrived, and I doubt that philosophy will change.

Needless to say, we only have 25 players on the team right now who have contracts in 2016.  Include our 9 draft picks and we have 34 players.  That 70 million is going to be difficult to stretch out to bring or resign at a bare minimum 18 players just to field a roster next year.

Gettleman will not 'change' as our cap situation improves. Gettleman is not cheap. He is fiscally responsible. He knows what he has to spend, and he knows what he has to pay for. He gets FA at value, and doesn't over spend. As we have more money, he will be able to get higher priced FA, but he will still be responsible, and get them at value.

When we have more money, he will continue to be fiscally responsible, he will continue to get good value out of players and he will continue to not overspend to satisfy his, or anyone else's ego. Paying a RB $50m isn't trying, it's being a bad GM and mis-managing your team.

When you have a team filled with contracts that are appropriate for the player, and add to it a constant stream of high value talent from the draft, that's how you properly manage team personnel. he isn't trying to build a one and done like Taints did. He's building a dynasty that will be deep in the playoffs every year.

Especially when two of those guys are going to cost 25-30 million right out of the gate. Once you allow for this draft class and next years draft class suddenly that 70 million is more like 30 million and we still need to resign a bunch of those other guys on your list.

Like I said we will end up only having about 20-25 million after resigning everyone. We will probably be able to sign a free agent around the 10 million dollar range and a few mid level guys but that is it.

Unless we find a solid CB and DE in this draft we will need to resign Alexander, Norman, White, and Horton.

Reammers, Nortman, and Stephen Hill could end up costing more money to keep if they have a good season.

Thomas Davis will probably only cost about 4-6 million because of his age and love for the organization.

Tolbert, Amini and Webb could all be let go.

The rest will probably sign for small vet min deals,

Gettleman seems to not mind it being a very dynamic atmosphere. Most people like things static and neatly categorized. eg. let's throw ridiculous money at two running backs so we don't have to address RB for several years. Done! Next item on the agenda!

Gettleman has 9n been a GM for a couple of seasons, but he has been the director of pro personal with the giants for a very long time, During such time the Giants did add big free agents to help them reach their superbowls.

This was covered in a past podcast.

You're welcome.
