Panthers dine with Shaq Thompson

I just get really excited of what Ron and Sean could do with a Kam type of player.

Except Chancellor actually Safety. Thompson is a player who doesn't play safety and refuse to play safety but gets brought up as a safety because Huddlers decided he should be or something at the bowling rally back in January.

So even if we were to draft an OLB in the first, which would be awful in and if itself, there would be better options at that position available.

He is refusing to play Running Back not Safety.

He has played Safety.

He prefers to play LB but has stated he would play S which means we have a Swiss army knife that our D coaches can get creative with.

And we were all bowling with a bunch of NFL Scouts and GM's it was fun....cute line though.

The Falcons told Shaq Thompson that they see him as "a Kam

Chancellor type"

Q: Have any teams said they prefer you at safety?

No. Most teams I talked to said weakside linebacker. The Falcons (thought I am) more like a Kam Chancellor type, so kind of like the linebacker role. There's just different views, but at the end of the day I just want to get drafted. It doesn't matter what position, I just want to have the opportunity to compete.

Q: What have coaches said they liked, and what do they think you need to improve?

What they like: I'm athletic. I'm able to cover tight ends and running backs, I can play in the open field. I'm also able to play weakside backer -- inside backer and WILL backer, whatever you want to call it. So pretty much the same thing. I can cover, I can play in space. Athletic for a WILL linebacker, and that's what most teams said they need. And the only thing they really said bad was just getting off of blocks."

    • You’d obviously go offense here. Be dumb not to. Warren or TMac don’t overthink it.
    • Just take less value for a trade back this year. 'But the trade value chart'... just doesn't matter when an extra 2nd should be enough to move back this year given the situation. I would take an extra 2nd over any player that could potentially be there at 8 and it's not close. Let the media bitch about it, just doesn’t matter if we walk away with an edge, FS and WR in  the first 2 rounds given how close all of that talent is when looking at it big picture. Fug the value chart and just give me a decent additional 2nd for the win. All it takes is someone falling in love with Sanders or the RB or whatever. If there was more talent in this draft then that would be a terrible idea but turning down a trade because the value was less than other years when the tellent is obviously less at the top of this draft would just show how poorly the people in charge understand this class and it's weaknesses. It would be like not finding a slot WR or RB later, just dumb IMO.
    • I get a sense they are weighing defense along w/ BPA. Whoever the staff likes between Mykel/Ez is my sense here. I would also throw in Harmon but our FAs along with Brown/Robinson make it a tough fit.  Trade downs may be unlikely in our spot so taking that out per request, Membou could be BPA, but gut says we go DBPA. Positional value is there, upside is there, Less anxious about them vs Shemar. I don’t think there’s offensive skill guys worth it - maybe Golden. There’s no ILBs, no safeties worth it, Will Johnson - injuries, Barron - is he just a NB/FS?  It’s Mykel season.
