Why Picking up Jonathan Martin was a Waste of Time...

The problem with this is Rivera and Gettleman get into this "hopeful" state with OTs we know for a fact can't do the job.  We know Martin sucks.  While it may seem like we got a deal with his contract, in actuality we will insert him in the starting line up, and Cam will proceed to get killed on just about every snap.  So when we cut Martin the following year, Cam would have gained a 100 years worth of his career in the same year.  Is this how we want to treat our franchise QB?

He looks really bad but I am sure it will be easy to do a cut up of bad plays of any player. How many snaps were those out of most likely 100s he took that season.

Of course it might be worse that all those plays only came in a couple of games.  Yet I'm sure this is why the 49ers didn't see fit to keep him on their squad for such a low contract.

There is no such thing. Literally every player in the league can still improve, and a change of scenery can help, as well as a coaching change. Martin was better last year with Harbaugh than he was before, and he was better last year than Oher and Bell were last year. Is he ideal? No. But he's a cheap, no risk, high reward player at our biggest position of need so it would have been borderline retarded to not pick him up.

This line of thinking I can get behind. Even after seeing that video, it's still worth a shot.

All of those were in only two games? Yikes

The guy was a 23 year old rookie @LT on a Dolphins team playing out the string against 2012 first team All-Pro Aldon Smith and a 49ers team on their way to the Super Bowl.  Doesn't have a D@MN thing to do with him being a part of the two deep at either tackle position as a 26 year old on the 2015 Carolina Panthers for a bargain basement price.
