Interesting Cam Newton Stats

IMO, the decline in his passing yardage has been a combination of personnel and scheme. Chud's scheme was wide open and was designed around creating big plays. With Shula, we've been more of a grind it out ball control offense. Then you factor in the turnover we've had at WR during Cam's career and the fact that he and his WRs really haven't been able to develop much chemistry year over year not to mention the fact that we've yet to put an NFL caliber OL in front of him and that's where the declining stats come from.

But, I'll say this, I'd rather Cam put up more pedestrian stats and win than see him smashing records like his rookie year while we lost.

Too bad our d was not as potent then as it is now.....yikes we would have been tough to beat.

I agree its more scheme than anything. Little more no huddle would change these stats IMO.

I understand that. Cam does it pretty frequently tho. I'm just saying if he improves that particular area, his completion percentage will soar.

I'm pretty sure if we watch every pass of any other QB like we do Cam we would see it's around the same..

Really? Cause Cam is 26th in the league in accuracy %. You can argue that Cam makes the right decisions, but he has never been an accurate thrower. Take the homer goggles off.

His yards drop due to the Yac of his WR's and pass catcher dropping..

You can see little to no change in yards per attempt. .

However, he has had a HUGE drop in yards/completion (which isn't in the OP's doc):

2011: 13.1

2012: 13.8 (led NFL)

2013: 11.6

2014: 11.9

I think this is due to the change in our OCs more than anything Cam is or isn't doing.

Interestingly enough, his career yards/completion leads all active NFL QBs, even after those two really "down" years. I put down in quotes because Yards/Completion is one of those stats that isn't necessarily good or bad (unlike Yards/Attempt, which is always good).

Yards/Completion never gets talked about, but I love it as a stat though because it tells you a lot about a teams offense or a QB's playing style.

Here's some of the other guys in the top 10:

Cam Newton 12.6

Michael Vick 12.5

Aaron Rodgers 12.5

Ben Roethlisberger 12.4

Andrew Luck 12.2

Tony Romo 12.1

What do all of them have in common? Hmm...

Cam is also not throwing a lot of bubble screens to pad his comp %..

You can definitely see the difference in big plays from a Chud offense to a Shula offense. .
