Cosell on top WRs in draft via MMQB

That's interesting. A truly ball possession offense loaded with Red Zone threats. Run the ball well. Possession receivers moving chains. Then when you get into the red zone you have a higher chance of success with large possession receivers and pass catching TEs. Additionally, the defense is fresh and is let loose. And Special Teams improve our field position and pin the opposition.

We would still have "somewhat" of a deep strike threat with Ginn running a go route but the opposing D couldn't double both receivers, the TE and put 8 in the box to stop the run. Olsen and a WR have to have single coverage if they put 8 in the box and double a WR. Don't put 8 in the box? Run throw to the 1 single covered WR.

It's a different approach that I've noticed. I like it. It could work if the Oline is effective and we get that WR#2 in the draft. Call it the Slow Burn Offense.

Shula.

THose that want DGB because of his size and strength need to look at the other side. Sure he has a ton of off the field issues which alone would give me plenty of concerns but what stands out for me is the concerns about effort and desire. You can teach fundamentals but you cant teach heart. That has to come from within and from all I have read is a big concern. He reminds me of a Justin Blackmon type guy. Tons of potential who just isnt mature enough to make it in the NFL.

I agree with you wholeheartedly about the effort part.

I can't make the Blackmon jump quite yet though because each person is different.

Probably because we run a Coryell offense.  To do that effectively, you need a receiver, or two, who can reliably get behind the defense.  It's not so much to aggressively throw down the field, but it's a huge part of the system.

Size can do this, just as much as speed.

Look at the Chargers a few years ago.

Reliable TE that can cause mismatches, and two really big WR's in Floyd and VJax.  Neither were burners, but you can't out jump them, and they win the jump balls most of the time.

Give me size, hands, and the smarts to learn to run good routes, and I'm sold.

I know of the off field issues but does DGB have issues with playing 100%? Problems with coaches? I know that can be a major problem if true.

For those who want a speedy receiver I say don't worry because guys like Tyler Lockett, Jameson Crowder, and Ty Montgomery are decent receivers with speed that could be drafted in the 4-5th round.

There's also big guys who have decent speed like Kenny Cook. This is one reason why I'm not worried if we draft a possession WR in the first.

I'm okay with size, to an extent.  The "original" explanation of the system called for 2 fast guys, with good hands, on the outside.  To me, KB is just fine for the system.  Separation has to be created, and KB can do that with his massive frame and reach, which works, and I'm good with it.  I, personally, would still like to see one of the outside guys that can create that separation with their speed.  The only reason I say that, is because the monsters, like KB, tend to be taken down almost immediately upon catching the ball.  They're covered, but win the jump ball, or are easily ran down.  That's great and all, especially in the red zone, but it would be super nice to have a guy that can turn that 40 yd pass into a 60 yd TD, instead of just a 40 yd gain.

Am I going to be upset if we get another huge guy as the #2?  Heck no, I'll be happy as poo.  I'd still love to have a #2 with legit breakaway speed though.
