Jarrett Boykin one-year Panthers deal: $700,000, $20,000 signing bonus, $20,000 workout bonus, $660,000 salary

Jordan Todman one-year Panthers deal: $765,000, $745,00 salary, $20,000 bonus, cap figure $605,000 on minimum salary benefit

Nice. Can easily cut if it doesn't work out with about no cap ramifications and they don't even add 500k combined to the top 51 cap.

Actually only a $135,000 net cap hit. Todman's hit is reduced by the veteran minimum benefit (as Wilson mentions), so they're total hit is $1.305m less two minimums totaling $1.17m.

Gettleman is still shopping at the Dollar store and it is a good thing. Looks like he has made key improvements on ST with very little cap space. This is huge IMO. Nothing high profile here but the team ( at least on paper) is considerably better with these moves.

I thought there was some rule that you couldn't get the lower cap number for a veteran if there was a signing bonus involved but it could be that there is a limit I suppose.

I can't remember the exact number, but you can give a small bonus. The bonus isn't reduced, however, as is evidenced here:

$870,000 salary reduced to $585k cap hit + $80k bonus for a total hit of $665k.

Then subtract a $585k salary at the net cap impact is $80k.

Yeah I just looked it up. It appears $80k is the maximum amount that can be given out in other compensation(workout, signing bonus) and still have the player qualify for the minimum salary benefit. So we gave Trusnick the maximum allowed and as a signing bonus which would lead me to believe there was at least some competition for his services.
