Jameis Winston and NFL Network

Jameis is a far better passer coming out of college than Newton, of course he has had many more opportunities given the offense they run.  Newton was a better runner, but in todays NFL, the pass is weighted higher, thus the nod to Winston.

I am a bit troubled by what the league says is "confidence".  At his pro day, he gushed about his own performance in sort of an "Ali" fashion.  That is okay if what you just did on the field backed up your words.  His workout was above average but not all world by any stretch, so the grounding, reality, real world stuff that I think is important in a young mans thinking, might still be forthcoming.

Either way, he will probably go first and start for the Bucs who desperately need to bring in some FL fans after the last few seasons.

Considering yards per attempt, passer rating, and TD/int ratio, Winston's 2013 season was better than Cam's 2010 season, but his 2014 season wasn't even close.

In 2010, Cam passed for 10.2 yards per attempt with a 182.0 passer rating and a TD/int ratio of 4.3.

In 2013, Winston passed for 10.6 yards per attempt with a 184.8 passer rating and a TD/int ratio of 4.0.  In 2014, Winston's yards per attempt went down to 8.4, his passer rating down to 145.5, and a TD/int ration of 1.4.  The combination of his two seasons gave him 9.4 ypa, 163.3 passer rating, and 2.3 TD/int.

Interestingly enough, in 2014 Winston had 467 pass attempts and those only resulted in 25 TD passes (18.7 attempts per TD).

In 2010, Cam had 280 pass attempts resulting in 30 TD passes (9.3 attempts per TD).

...

Jason Cole reports that questions still remain from NFL teams regarding FSU QB Jameis Winston’s maturity. Cole has spoken to people within the league who are “scared” of Winston because “he acts like a ten-year-old.“

This has reportedly led to some questioning whether or not Winston will be able to hand the spotlight if he ends up being the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft. Cole adds that even people within Winston’s camp have acknowledged the maturity concerns.
