He has coached for three teams reaching Super Bowls. Two (2003 Carolina, 2013 Denver) were as a head coach, one (2000 New York Giants) as a defensive coordinator.

His teams didn’t win any of them. But two of those teams reached the Super Bowls without true “elite” quarterbacks (Jake Delhomme in Carolina, Kerry Collins in New York), and Fox is not dwelling on what his presumptive 2015 quarterback – Jay Cutler – isn’t.

“I think I’ve seen him have success, albeit maybe not super recent,” Fox said during last week’s NFL owners meetings. “But in spurts. In sections of his career. And in games. He’s had success. And now, like anybody, it’s becoming more consistent with that success. So that’s about as simple as you can be. But it’s about as truthful as you can be.”

Of course, one of those 'not elite' QBs was our own Jake Delhomme.

Can't imagine I'm the only one who thinks Fox sounds something less than enthused about coaching Jay Cutler.

and Fox may not be happy about Cutler, but hes stuck with him and he knows how to get what he wants out of crappy qbs.  Hes lightning a fire under Cutler to give him a "I'll show you attitude"

In terms of raw talent, Cutler is miles ahead of Jake.  But in terms of being an NFL QB, Jake was miles ahead of Cutler.  If you give Jake the raw talent of Cutler, you probably have an all-time great QB.  Everything Jake had (moxie, poise, leadership, clutch abilities, etc.) is everything Cutler lacks.

The difference between Jake and Jay is that jake was a mediocre QB that played with the heart of a lion every game. Jay is a mediocre QB that cries and complains and doesn't really give a #*%+

Parroting what LinvilleGeorge said, Cutler is a way better QB than Jake ever was.  The difference is Jake was a better leader and was enough for what our system required.  Remains to be seen if Cutler is what the Bears need.

Fox has gone from Jake to Peyton to Cutler in the space of a few years. I'd call that running the gamut.

And I won't lie: I'd laugh my ass off if he went into the year with Clausen as his starter.
