If it came down to Peat or Perriman....

I still feel, after seeing Gman do the "second chance" stuff all over the place, is that we take Cedric in the second.

Not only does he have left tackle skills and build, but he could have the fire because of dropping to the bottom of the second, or middle of the second if we want to move up.

Cedric won't be there in the 2nd.

If Gman has balls like I do, he'd take Cedric at 25.

Especially with now having Oher and Martin, Cedric won't have to be rush into playing this season.

Would be disappointing. I love thinking long term too but I want to win the Super Bowl this year too and there's no reason to think we won't be playing again in January. To gain ground on the Packers and Seahawks we need immediate impact from 25 overall.

Personally I think that if Gurley is there, we are picking him, regardless of Peat, Perriman, Strong or anyone else.  But that's just a guess.

IMO, we are not quite in RB in the 1st position. We still have a few other positions that need addressing to go that route.

RB in the 1st is like a higher priced FA. You only use that scenario when you are only a player or two away from being stacked.

We really need a quality Tackle, CB, WR, and maybe even a S. RB just isn't that high of a priority this year. Fill out the roster better, then maybe a RB in the 1st doesn't seem like such a luxury pick.

Especially Gurley with his health issues. After all, Gurley never played a full year in college. That really concerns me.

Gettlemen is a disciple of Ernie Acorsi, who didn't like taking Offensive Lineman in the first, he believed Lineman were the easiet position group to coach up.

The belief was you could take an Offensive Lineman with "average talent" and coach him up by working on his technique and other things and get him to the "good" level, but with other positions it's a lot harder. Therefore we'll take one of these others positions in the first (because first round picks are the most developed and complete players) and take an offensive lineman later.

All that being said I don't think Gettlemen holds this philosophy as strongly as his mentor. I think he wouldn't hesitate to take Peat if he was there.

In fact someone on this board mentioned that last year had Miami not taken Juwan James ahead of us he would have been our pick.

And to answer OP; I would choose Perriman, but I think the Panthers would choose Peat.

No thank you to Cedric in the 1st. Gettleman is always preaching to take instant impact players in the early rounds.

And look at what has happened to the 49'ers. Loaded roster, but spent waaaay to many resources into guys who could end up paying dividens down the road, but eventually ended up failing and now they are probably ending last in their division.

Actually I agree with you in theory. I just keep hearing Gettleman espouse the virtues of BPA, which I really can't argue with. Depending on how everything shakes out, I could easily see Gettleman having Gurley as the BPA. I just don't think that Gettleman would consider any BPA a luxury pick, especially in the first two rounds where you have to hit that nail on the head. I just don't think that Gurley's health problems here and there are going to trump his talent in G-man's mind provided that Dr. Anderson gives him the thumbs up. Hopefully Gurley will be drafted higher (because i actually think he deserves it), and Gettleman won't be put to the test.  I'm sure Gurley will be looking like a mighty tasty morsel.

One thing that I would like to note is that you may not think RB is a priority this year, but Gettleman is probably thinking long term. In that sense, he probably won't view Gurley as such a luxury pick, as much as he deems Gurley a future game changing playmaker.

I would probably take Peat just because tackles seem so hard to find.

To be honest though my knowledge of both is limited to a few highlight videos.  Hopefully our coaches, scouting department, and GM will have a better evaluation of both since they have probably actually watched tape of every snap they took in college, talked to their former coaches and possible even interviewed the players.
