Gettleman; "Me and Greg Jennings sort of kicked the tires and discussed if he would be a good fit."

Last year the most active teams in free agency were:

1. Tampa Bay

2. New York Giants

3. Washington

4. Oakland

5. Chicago

What do all 5 of those teams have in common this year? They're all picking in the top 10.

Based on what metric? Guaranteed money? Players brought in? Where do the super bowl champs rank? They brought in Revis, Browner and LaFell.

Even if we sign Jennings we would still be the near the bottom of that list for 2015. Building through the draft and being conservative in free agency doesn't mean you only sign bottom of the barrel guys. Green Bay basically doesn't participate in free agency but that strategy requires drafting for need which we don't do.

I think I meant to say Seattle.   My bad.

Seattle has been one of the more active teams in the league in free agency. Michael Bennett, Cliff Avril, Doug Baldwin, and so on. Maybe not a ton of activity in 2014, but they have a track record of being active.

As somebody said here before, there's a reason why G is the GM and we're not.

Because he worked at it for 50 years and most of us aren't even 50 years old would be the biggest reason. With that saying you could also say there's a reason why G is the GM of the Panthers and it took him so long to become one. The ironic thing is that Dave himself is a dollar store signing.

Not only that, but for years you would hear about them bringing in guys every Tue. They do just about anything they can to improve their roster. Of course, getting Wilson is what actually put them over the top. But, you have to like their willingness to tweak their roster.

You also have to remember that when Carroll got there, there team wasn't very good. So they really needed to look at a lot of guys.

I would consider anyone who spent 50 years learning a craft/trade pretty damn close to being a master of it. Man, we sure are lucky.

Hey, why bother getting some old guy who's spent 25 long years working in professional football personnel departments when you can go after young guys that have won the Super Bowl with their Madden franchises five years in a row? Those are the people who know how football really works!

Don't people know this is the digital age?

Because you know so much more than the many franchises that passed up on Gettleman year after year right? The Giants didn't even want him anymore and had to create a "special" role for him. By his own admission he was on his way out off football until the Panthers came calling. No doubt in my mind that he's one of the lowest paid GM's in the league. He's a dollar store GM.

While apparently Mr Scot has no knowledge of why teams passed over Dave Gettleman for GM, i can hear that you have a lot. Please enlighten us on why he never got the chance to be the GM of another team.
