[RUMOR] Falcons to lose 2nd round pick

Look for them to trad back in the first?

That's the rumor going around their message boards. They are saying the GM made a statement about possibly trading back to acquire a pick in whatever round they lose theirs. It's also fueled by Randy Gregory admitting his failed drug test at the Combine. He's going to slide down draft boards and make the other 3 pass rushers they want (Fowler, Ray, and Beasley) probably get drafted ahead of their #8 pick.

Sweet.  Screw them.  Plus, it essentially means we've traded up one spot in the 2nd round without giving anything up.

Yeah, I agree with your sentiment, but everyone gets to move up a spot which essentially means that the only benefit that we're getting would be linked to whomever they would have picked.

And to those thinking that it is somehow cheating a player, that's life.  That player is "cheated" out of being Mr. Irrelevant which is not really something to aspire to in most instances.  People coming in that late in the draft are in  no ways a lock to make the team anyway. When you come in late, you're going to have to compete to make the squad. The benefit of doubt has long been gone by the time you get to rounds 6 and 7.

Does that mean our compensatory fifth round pick is no longer a sixth round pick because it is before where a sixth round pick would normally be at? Or is our fifth round pick still a sixth round pick because it is after the fifth round but before the sixth?

yeah seems like that would mean one guy who would have been drafted won't be...seems odd

That's actually a good thing... Mr. Irrelevant gets to choose a team that he has a better chance of sticking with.
