Source: Offensive lineman Ben Ijalana visited Panthers

Ijalana has played in seven games in three NFL seasons.

He played for the New York Jets last season, appearing in three games after being cut by the Indianapolis Colts.

The 6-foot-4, 322-pounder was drafted by the Colts in the second round in 2011.

Ijalana played four games in his rookie season before tearing his anterior cruciate ligament twice, once in 2011 and once in 2012.

Sounds like Gettlemen is going to throw several players at the wall and hope a few stick.

Ijalana was a surprising pick--one of those Bill Polian EGO picks--he started trying to get cute toward the end.  Frankly, I thought he was a G and he could be here.

I think that is an apt description. Still, last year we lamented the lack of "effort" to bring in lineman. Bell and Chandler were the clear favorites from March to September. So I welcome this approach.

Good point.  I still expect a draft pick or even 2 at OT.

Read up on him a little bit. He was up for the Outland Trophy in college. Spent his entire college career at left tackle but projected more as a right tackle or guard in the NFL.

Injuries have been his bugaboo. He tore his ACL twice.

Looks like another low risk, high reward guy if they sign him.

Outside of Norwell and Turner, what guards will be competing for a roster spot? Is Velasco still around? Gary Williams? We could probably stand to bring in some depth and competition at guard as well.

Velasco and Williams are both free agents.

They did re-sign Chris Scott.
