Panthers claim OT Jonathan Martin

Gettlemen is looking for deals in the damaged goods bin.  If you all do not get it, start bitching because Gettlemen is not signing Duane Brown or the next Tony Boselli.

If he is good, he will stick.  If not, he will be cut.  I am sure we don't have a ton wrapped up in this move.

Not sure how many people remember, but Martin is actually the second player that was part of the Dolphins bullying scandal to play for the Panthers.

The first was Andrew McDonald.  He made it to our practice squad last year but then was signed away by the Seahawks early in the season.

(I think they cut him later because I remember some folks here hoping we'd bring him back)

Sooooo we want Gettleman to sign OTs.

He gets a former second round pick on the dirt cheap

Everyone bitches. smh

What do you guys think there is some stud all-pro OT floating around somewhere?

This is a solid move, if it doesn't work out it doesn't hurt us, if it does we have a possible starter or at least depth.

You guys are impossible to please :D

This was a good move by Gettleman. I liked Jonathan Martin when he was coming out of Stanford. He hasn't really found a place to stick yet and the Panthers can potentially be the right fit for him. What he does well is he is a absolute mauler in the run game. If anyone knows the Panthers, they know we want to establish the run game first. This was a cheap move and we don't have to reach for a tackle in the draft now. This move could pay off big time when TC rolls around. I'm officially on the Jonathan Martin bandwagon!

10 to 1 you would not say that to his face if there were no laws or friends to protect you and no way out of the room.

Would he tell on me though?

Just kidding!!!!!!! Obviously not, but I couldn't resist jumping at the opportunity of rustling a few jimmies on this late friday afternoon.

But on a serious note, a mean streak isn't something you can just develop. Hanging out with Norwell ain't going to do jack poo, it's something you have or you don't. Like I said I don't mind this signing because of the low risk, I haven't paid any attention to the product Martin brings on the field so I can't bash this signing.

    • The other draft picks have turned out pretty well. Brooks will too.
    • I'm still not touching Hunter He again said the other day that he plans on playing both sides of the ball in the NFL.  If he is allowed to do that, he won't be as good on either side as his potential and he's going to have serious injury issues and have a short career.  If he's not allowed to do it, I think he's going to become a problem when the team isn't winning as he's going to feel him not being used on both sides of the ball is why. He's being coddled in that environment with Deion and I think it's doing a disservice to him to prepare him for life in the NFL where your coach isn't a 2nd father to you, to where you can just walk into his locker room and steal his shoes like Hunter does to Deion.
    • He’s a tad behind them. Around 15ish of 32 starters in the league. He’s well ahead of a lot of guys. Tua, Bryce, Cousins (present), Rodgers (current), Devito/Jones, Minshew, Russ (current), Watson, Smith, Carr, T Laws deep ball is weak as poo IMO, there’s plenty. And it’s not like everyone is ripping 60+ers. The key component is if you can rip and maintain velocity of the 30-40 yarders which he does super well. Legit every report out there from Brugler to PFF to PFN document him as good/above average arm strength.  Eye test tells me it’s pretty much that as well, slightly above average.
