Current Panthers Receiver Depth Chart

The expectations are different between the two. I don't think or expect Brown to be our next great WR or even a #2 for that matter. I don't think most people here do either. But there's no harm in giving him a chance to compete. Obviously Gettleman isn't settling if he's offering a contract to Greg Jennings.

Brown was a UDFA who did come up big for us at times last year. He didn't put up a lot of stats but he made crucial plays. Hill is a 2nd round draft choice who has nearly fallen off the map. But hey  I would like a guy with his measurables to succeed here too.

Yea Hill was overdrafted  based on potential but he was what...20 years old? He's now 23 so maybe his mind is right? By all accounts it usually takes WRs a couple of years to adjust to the NFL and that's when they are around 22-23 years old...he was a baby by those terms when he was drafted and had the Jets to work with.

I think Proehl is good for both Brown and Hill so we'll get more out of some WRs than a lot of teams so we can hope either or both pan out and our WR corps could turn very dangerous pretty quickly.

we disagree and that's OK.  It'd be great if a player showed up that can stretch it deep, but also be sure-handed, a great blocker, and be able to settle into underneath routes.   For right now, they split that amount of roles across a few guys.  I'm just stating that's a valid concept.   As is ball control.  Team's winning with both.

They happened. Does that negate what I said? No. Of course, a WR's role isn't only to run the 9 route and speed isn't the only way to get open.

He wasn't getting open consistently enough to be considered anything but a 4th wr at best.. And our offense slowed down when Olsen had to block.. We need another Weapons to open up our offense. .

If they are going to stick with Shula they have to get more talent on the field to make his meh.. play calling better..

is there some sort of quantifiable way of saying "He wasn't getting open consistently enough to be considered anything but a 4th wr at best"?  That seems like a fine argument, except there's nothing backing it whatsoever.  What level of "getting open" has this mythical #2 on it, and what has a #4?

I do agree Olsen shouldn't be blocking.

Still not happy with OT.  Competition could bear that out, but that's a pair of positions where you're on the field every down and have to be good at every single thing, every single down.   Right now this #2 receiver thing boils down to combining the players who do things well into one player, with realistic impact coming in fewer snaps.

Definitely still plenty of room to upgrade WR, too. Could use a back.

Why Cotchery wasn't good enough to be a number 2 or even a number 3 this year..

1. Cut off routes. .

2. Dropped balls when your suppose to be the sure handed guy..

3. Couldn't beat a DE on a Fly route and pretty much could beat a CB on many routes..

How many drops did he actually have?  How does that compare to KB or some of the FAs out there such as Jennings or Crabtree?

You go to PFf I won't use them. .

He had 78 targets and 48 rec. All of those aren't his fault..

But I do know he drop a game winning TD in Cincy..

He dropped a long pass in Green bay..

He pulled up in a few routes against Pittsburgh. .

And he was completely embarrassing in the Philly game being locked down by Connor Barwin on 2 deep routes..

I promise you Jennings nor Crabtree can be locked down by a DE outweighing by 80 lb..
