49ers Waive OT Jonathan Martin

49ers announced they have waived T Jonathan Martin.

Former second round draft selection that has played and started quite a few football games in his career. Last season he made 9 starts in San Francisco. I have no idea if he is any good or not and am not interested in the discussing his reasons for leaving Miami. He could potentially fit here with our woes at the tackle position. Ideal size for the position. Worth noting he was a Harbaugh guy and the new regime has been shipping his guys out of the door.

Would he be worth looking into? An upgrade over Remmers or valuable depth? How did he grade out last season?

He kinda sucks but he might be alright as a backup. Probably worth putting in a waiver claim for him. We are 25th in the order but a decent chance he slides to us. I know we can at least count out the Bills trying to get him.

    • Same... With the personnel the Niners had, that defense could have been historically good in the right hands. Under Wilks they were certainly good, they didn't quite rise to that level. Honestly, I see Wilks kinda like I see Rivera: fantastic person, decent head coach. Skill wise, phenomenal DB coach, so-so DC. His greatest strength is his leadership. Hard to find many better in that department. In the Xs and Os / execution area though, not as good. Bottom Line: Wilks is the sort of coach that needs a staff that excels in those aspects of the game where he's weaker. But, like Rivera, I don't know that he scouts assistants very well. That as much as anything might be why he's not in the NFL now.
    • Clearly the best outcome for us is a Giants W. A spot or two difference in the 4th round is inconsequential. Just look at the trade value charts. A spot or two at the top of the 1st means a LOT. A spot or two in the mid-rounds? Virtually nothing.
    • Agree. I don't think I have ever heard him say anything positive, at any time, about the Panthers. Best expectation is no mention at all.
