Carolina Panthers coach Ron Rivera thinks Stephen Hill ready to help

Someone please help me understand the fascination with Hill. I get people wanted him activated last year because of his speed, but now we have Brown and Ginn. Both of them are better than Hill. I don't see Hill as a #2. He is another Jarrett. I'd rather have King back on the PS.

What has Brown done to show he's better than Hill?

I think with Hill the best way he will thrive is to keep it simple. Pretty much tell him his only job is to get open as he possibly can and when he is WIDE open, make a catch. I know it sounds like im being captain obvious but I went back and watched his highlights, he seems to be great at just being wide open on an island and makimg a catch, with his size and blazing speed, he shouldnt have a problem getting open often

Two things occur to me.  First, if you think that anything Rivera is saying now is something that will provide deep insight into the Panthers' future plans at any position, you're an idiot.  Second, if Hill's one of our 5-6 best options at WR, great.  If not, so what?  Why is anyone emotionally invested in this kid anyway?  Give me a regular guy who can somehow make play after play over Mr. Measurables any day of the week.  Jerry Rice wasn't Jerry Rice because he was bigger and faster than everyone else, right?

It would be nice to see him make it and become a star so we can all point and laugh at the Jets for letting him go, but really, there's no reason beyond that to root for him to be better than four other random guys, is there?

You trust Hill but not Ginn? Please explain.

I believe Ginn has already reached his potential as a WR and Hill is still young and has the potential to be better than Ginn. Right now overall Ginn is better because he can return punts but if it comes to the depth chart at WR I see no reason why Hill wouldn't be ranked higher than Ginn if he makes the team. First of all if he makes the team it will mean that he has learned the playbook and has developed as a better WR while on our practice squad. Here is a comparison of Ginn and Hill as a receiver, not a overall player.

Stephen Hill

6'4

Speed

Good blocker

Catch radius

Drops

Route running is raw

Still young

Ted Ginn

Size 5'11

Speed

Drops

Has experience

So after comparing the two with what I know I would say Hill fits our system better. Cam loves big WRs and we need WRs that can block in our system. Both have speed and both have drop issues. Sure Ginn has more experience but he isn't going to get any better while Hill has the potential to improve.

I don't even know if Hill will end up being or #2 WR but I could defiantly see him beating out Ginn on the depth chart.

Ted gin  age 29 draft 2007  ..Rec 211   Target 406 times ...8 years ( Good Return man Wr not so good, He fast tho)

Corey Phillip "Philly" Brown age 23 draft 2014..... Rec 21   Target 36 times 1 year

Stephen Hill age 23 Draft 2012..... Rec 45     Target 106 times ( But did not see the field last year as a panther )

Kelvin Benjamin age 24 Draft 2014..... Rec 73  Target 146 times

Brenton Bersin age 24 Draft 2012.... Rec 13 Target 20 times  ( But 2014 was first time he seen the filed as a panther )

Funny thing about that is Hill and Brown are the youngest of our Wr group as of right NOW both are 23 years old.
Hill and Bersin are from the same 2012 draft , I forgot about that ..

All five combined = Rec 363  Target 714 times

Oh lets not forget about ..
Jerricho Cotchery age 32 2004 draft ..Rec 485 Target 756 times

Hmmm   It is what it is i guess ..No clue what my point is here tho lol , But it looks like they all need some Pin Tar  or that's a lot of bad Qb passes going on ,,,

I didn't realize Hill was still 23.

I know Hill didn't have any catches last season but to his defense he didn't have an offseason to prepare for our offense. Bersin has been with us for a while, Avant and Cotchery are seasoned vets, KB was a 1st round draft pick and Brown had punt return ability and a preseason to learn our offense. So maybe there was a good reason why Our staff wanted to wait on hill.

    • Hope Koch recovers (he’s stated numerous times he doesn’t like to be called “koochie”) soon. But he does not instill confidence in the crease. I don’t have any confidence in any of our goalies, healthy or not. Andersen when available gives us the best chance to win but he’s never available.    Team has to explore trade options soon.
    • Respectfully, I completely disagree. Last year we were:  32nd in Sacks. 32nd in Turnovers.  32nd in Rushing TDs allowed  29th in Scoring.  We were absolutely atrocious on defense last year and that was with a full stable of weapons in Derek Brown, Frankie Luvu and Brian Burns that played all 17 games.  Using yards per game as a metric to guage our success lacks the context that because our offense was so inept teams were not driving the length of the field, they were starting at their 40-50 yard line.  This year, our Defense ranks:  31st in Sacks. Tied for 19th in Turnovers  31st in Rushing TDs allowed 32nd in Scoring  His defense fails to get pressure, fails to turn the ball over and fails to stop the run. Three things you absolutely have to do to be successful in the NFL.  Denver meanwhile has not missed a beat without him.  If another team wants to hire him as a HC and the Panthers get two 3rds for it I'll wish him the best and pack his bags myself.
