same as last year, Rivera says Cam has got to become a more sound QB

You literally said "if you want Cam to be better, put better players around him" as if we can't get better without a better supporting cast. Tannehill, Luck, and Wilson all had garbage OLs and receivers last year and they still produced.

You literally said" I don't watch other QB" and now you want to tell me what surrounding cast other QB have..

Another contradiction. .

And saying Cam getting better weapons will make him better isn't saying he's perfect. .

IT'S saying we will actually know what Cam needs to work on when he's not running for his life and WR can get separation on DE's..

In 2013 we had 3 receivers who went for 1000 yards last year:

Smith as the true number 1 for a very good Ravens team, LaFell as a hybrid 1/2 for the Super Bowl champion Patriots and Pro Bowl caliber tight end Greg Olsen. Throw speedster Ted Ginn into that mix and we had a damn good receiving corps in 2013.(Yes, yes, I know: Lafell was not good enough to make any NFL roster outside of Carolina, period, much less as a number 2 wideout. But I am sure JO JO would let some of you guys kiss his Super Bowl ring if you asked nicely).

That 2013 team also had a productive DeAngelo Williams, Pro Bowl fullback Mike Tolbert and an offensive line ranked in the top 10 in virtually every metric imaginable. We finished 28th in passing offense and Cam Newton finished 15th in NFL passer rating.

Behind Andy Dalton.

Behind Alex Smith.

Behind Jay Cutler.

Behind Sam Bradford.

Behind Colin Kaepernick.

Behind Josh McCown.

Behind Nick Foles.

Those numbers had nothing to do with the Panthers' limited passing attempts...indeed, as a general rule, the fewer the attempts, the better a players' passer rating tends to be.

The result of his first three seasons was that Cam Newton went into last season ranked as the 16th best QB in the league by NFL GM's and scouts. Why?

Here are Cam Newton's finishes in NFL passer rating for his career:

2011: 15th

2012: 15th

2013: 16th

2014: 26th

Yes, Newton can run, but the threat of the run should actually make him a MORE productive passer, not a less productive passer (see Kaepernick and Wilson for examples).

This is a big season for Cam Newton. It is the reason he does not have a contract. He is not a "kid" anymore. He has started 65 NFL football games-4 complete seasons and has yet to put up a passer rating above 90, while being one of the least accurate passers in the NFL over that stretch. Carolina's pass protection last season was not nearly as poor as many try to make it out to be, but this has already been shown statistically. The bottom line is that Cam Newton's surrounding talent last season was better than several younger quarterbacks who out played him.

Coach is correct. Cam has to become more consistent at short range passes (note: he's getting better). Cam needs to continue to learn to shift and throw forward together, not shift back and throw forward. The latter produces high uncatchable balls and interceptions.

And nowhere in that mass of utter garbage letters assembled above can you find the letter combination S-H-U-L-A.

Huh... I'll be danged.

Over exaggeration. .

Cam need more help must mean Cam needs the 80' 49ers..

I have actually said he needed more help in the past. My point is with some posters there will never be enough "help".

All I heard in 2013 was that Lafell was the problem. I guess Brady didn't get that memo.

Our offense was about as bad in 2013 before the great WR purge and Bell/Chandler experiment.

I'm not saying it is all Cam's fault but I have my doubts that fixing our offense is as easy as signing some "2" receiver. I think it is a combination of QB play, surrounding talent, and coaching.

 Hakeem Nicks, who would have been the jewel of Panther's off season, cannot even get on the field in Indy because of how loaded the Colts are...And Tannehill was so productive that he was about to be bench mid-season.

My god people. Let's clear this Lafell poo up right now. Lafell is a professional football player that gets paid is he not allowed to improve? He's improved every year he's been in the league, but everyone wants to give Brady all the credit.

He averaged 12.8 yards per catch with Cam in 2013 and 12.9 with Brady last year. He had 5 tds with Cam and 7 with Brady. The only difference in the Lafell with Cam and the Lafell with Brady is that Tom Brady throws the damn ball more than Cam giving Lafell more receptions and yardage. Everything else is virtually identical.

Can anyone name any weapon on the Dolphins team? Ryan F'ing Tannehill, passed for more yds, higher completion %, threw for more TDs and had a higher rate than Cam with a far worse oline. But yeah, it's weapons.

Did he have offseason ankle surgery? Have a WR group that had never caught a pass from him in a NFL game?
