Getting ready to move...(warning, long rant)

Sorry in advance for the long post but I need a good rant.  So the house I've rented with my roommate for three years that was for sale since October finally sold to an investment realty company.  They gave us notice on Feb 27 to move out by March 31.  No big deal, we knew it was coming.  When the house was for sale my roommate and I talked about living together again and he said yes, no problem.

We have lived together for 4 years.  When I first moved down to Austin we lived in a house that had been passed down by a long chain of people who moved to Austin from NC.  But the house was dilapidated so we moved out after a year.  So we moved into the house we're in now.  He had the master bedroom in the last house, I had the master in our current house we're about to move out of.  He assumes he's getting the master at the next place.  And normally I'd be a high character guy and say yea, no problem, you get the master in the next house.  But...here's the situation.

When we got notice at our current house, he posted a facebook status about how our house sold and we got notice and how he's looking for a new place to live.  The post was pretty innocuous so no big deal right?  Well, he hid the facebook post from me.  You have to intentionally do that poo, so it was personal.  That same day he made the facebook post I had people messaging me about having to move out.  And I was like, what?  I haven't told anyone yet?  So I ask how they found out and turns out he made this hidden facebook post.  Also learned that he'd gone around telling people he didn't want to live with me anymore and he's looking for another place.  But to my face he said he wanted to live with me again.  So I confront him, "Hey man, what's up with the hidden facebook post?  I hear you went around telling people you don't want to live with me again?"  He denies everything, says it's a glitch with facebook, denies telling anyone he doesn't want to live with me anymore.  Well after that confrontation he backtracks and we end up finding a new place.  Just signed the lease yesterday.

I've done a lot for this guy - I got him his job he has now.  Straight up I got him a job at the company I work for.  I covered him at work for a month when his band went on tour last year.  I was there for him when his girlfriend cheated on him and he woke me up at 4 am to talk him down off the ledge.  And he doesn't have enough respect for me to tell me he doesn't want to live with me again to my face?

So I'm going to tell him I'm taking the master bedroom in the new house.  I did all the searching for the place, all the interfacing with the new landlords and realtors, already paid the deposit out of my own money, etc.  Besides the countless other poo I've done for him.  I just don't think after everything he did and what I've done for him he deserves it.

tl;dr - taking the master bedroom at the new house from my ungrateful chicken poo roommate

Roommates are for college students, not grown men.

Time to grow up.

If I lived in any other city I'd live alone.  Problem is Austin is growing so fast that rent rates have skyrocketed and wages haven't caught up yet.  You have to have a roommate if you live anywhere close to town, unless you want to live in a shithole or live way the fug outside of town...

This may sound rather harsh, but you're an adult, so deal with it.

Sounds to me like you're taking the master as simply as a symbolic gesture to remind him of how he betrayed you and you no longer trust him. Okay, I get that. But the real bottom line here is how much or little trust have you lost? Or, better yet, how's that master gonna feel if he moves out in 2 months without telling you?

Better formulate a backup plan in case he does decide to pack his Hefty trash bag luggage and move out Cleveland Brown style....

His name is on the lease so I don't see him doing that.

You sound like, "I'm not going to give up on us" guy that yells at his ex and her friends six months after they broke up

Believe me I wouldn't live with his ass anymore if I had the means to live by myself.  I had 30 days to figure something out, and unless I took a temp sublet with some random craig's list people (yuck) it was either live with him again, or get my own place and pay an arm and a leg to live in a closet.

That's not really the sort of thing that a person can just say my bad and take back.

I don't think I'd want to live under the same roof with someone like that for several months after they did that, just me though. If you didn't have much a choice, that's understandable. But I would begin the process of finding another suitable roommate pretty soon.

I mean if you paid the deposit then yeah, I'd say you are entitled to the master, that makes sense.  I thought most people (normally split deposit) usually decide the master by having that person(s) pay a bit more per month of the bill, it only makes sense if you are using more of the apartment.

Is he a good roommate?  Clean, pays bill on time, etc?  Then just step back and let them be a roommate and not a close friend.   If the reason you dealt with his  terrible habits (if they are any) was because he was a friend, then look elsewhere.

Don't let him upset you or let him know, just ramble on, it's not worth it.

Honestly we're not as good of friends as we used to be.  Definitely a roommate situation.  We grab a beer every now and again, chat every now and again.  He's a good roommate all things considered but this poo with the hidden facebook post really pissed me off.  I would not have cared at all if he didn't want to live with me again because I get it, we've had a good run, but going around and telling pretty much everyone else but me is fuging embarrassing, for BOTH of us.

If I were in your shoes I would've confronted him face to face, then told him after the lease was up he's on his own. And left it at that. No drama. The hell with two faced people, he's not your friend. I would get a 2nd job and live alone in a less desirable area before I lived with someone who did that kinda crap.

Here's the thing, you're a grown man and acting like a 15-year-old girl.

Seriously, not even joking. You're engaging in BS that is no different than what teenage girls do. Here, I'll translate your OP into high school girl drama-drama.

Well, you see, me and Ashley have went to the Halloween Ball together as Cinderella and Little Mermaid like 4 years in a row. We take turns being Cinderella because she's the best, of

course. So, okay, like this year the Ball is being moved to a different gymnasium because the old one was sold and isn't available. It's cool, though, no problem. Like, of course we're gonna go to the new Ball together. We've been BFFs for like 6 years. Since I was Cinderella last year Ashley said she's gonna be Cinderella this year. Well, normally I'd be okay with it but here's the thing. Rebecca told me that Ashley told Sarah and Tiffany that she like didn't even want to go with me this year. Like, she even made a post on Facebook saying all this stuff and made it private where I couldn't see it. Like, OMG, that is so lame. So when I confronted Ashley about it she denied it and lied. So, like, I'm so confused. She finally decided she is gonna go with me. But, like, I am so being Cinderella even though it's her turn. F that. We are BFFs but she totally stabbed me in the back so I'm totally gonna be Cinderella just go show her. So anyways now I'm here talking to all you girls about this behind Ashley's back.

How am I the one engaging in BS drama?  I didn't do anything to cause this.  This is a bit more serious than high school drama considering you need to have a roof over your head and I'm on a deadline.

Ask Delhommey if he's got a couch? :P (he still lives in Austin, right?)
