Panthers talk to Greg Jennings

YAC is really not the main thing you look for in a WR. It's nice to have, but getting open and catching are more important.

YAC is actually very important...

...if you're running a West Coast Offense.

If you run a Coryell offense, well then getting open and catching are kind of more important. YAC is a 'nice to have' but not as big a deal.

Not sure why most hated the idea of signing Andre Johnson but are super excited about getting Jennings. Jennings is only 2 years younger than Andre and not even close to being as good.

Jennings will not beat anyone deep anymore, it'll be up to Shula to put Jennings in spots for him to be successful. Just asking Jennings to be a number 2 by having him line up outside isn't going to end well.

I'd rather have Crabtree but both were similar WR's last season. Crabtree is the bigger more physical of the two and with the Saints just signing Browner, Crabtree may come in handy.

With that said, Jennings>Cotchery so I'd welcome Jennings to this group any day

I don't recall people hating the idea so much as believing that we couldn't afford him (which turned out to be true).

As to Crabtree, I'm not that big a fan anyway, but even less of a fan when you take him out of a West Coast system.

Yeah, people don't seem to get that even though we've run some variation of the Coryell offense for the last decade. The West Coast relies heavily on screens so you need that YAC to get first downs. The vast majority of our receiving yards have come during the catch - not after it. That's why possession guys like Moose and deep threats like Steve Smith were so good here. It's also why Olsen is so great for our system despite being slow as molasses.

Jennings at least doesn't have the lower leg injury issues that hampered Crabtree the last few years. That's what concerns me about Crabtree more than the supposed diva attitude or bad teammate rap. The fact that he and Hakeem Nicks have barely drawn any interest in the FA market this offseason leads me to believe that it's injury related.

Golly Gee Goobypls if Crabtree is ~so elite~

why is no one trying to get him

Go Ahead, I'll Wait

Where did I ever said he was elite?

The same team that are going after Crabtree is the same team going after Jennings.
