This whole drafting the best player available talk around here is ridiculous

If you can show me a presser or interview where someone with the Panthers said they feel like Luke's skillset translated well to OLB, I'll concede the argument. They drafted Luke as BPA and figured out the fit afterward to get him on the field.

In fact, one could argue that Luke Kuechly is the gotdamn poster child for BPA. We had an all-pro MLB and drafted Luke anyway, and now Luke is the best MLB in football by a wide margin. Had we reached for need we'd still have Beason (no disrespect, but he's not Luke) and someone like Mark Barron because we would have reached for need.

Draft good football players first. Your needs will change every single year.

this. On the flip side I'm very excited for the draft as always

Please. You were one of the loudest, longest whiners after last year's draft, and it turned out to be our best ever.

No, nobody's infallible, but your opinions are pretty uninformed and out of touch with reality.

You're wrong once again. I believe you have me mistaken with someone else.

I was pissed about Gettleman's lack of emphasis on OT in the offseason. I wasn't whining about last year's draft picks, but I wanted us to pick an OT. Sue me.

I said I didn't think the draft was going to be very good, but I went out of my way to point out that I hoped I was wrong, and a lot of it hinged on KB. I also admitted I was wrong about the 2010 draft, on which I was sold. Unlike you and many on here I own up to when my predictions are wrong, but I won't own up to false accusations and BS.

I liked the KB pick and the Bene pick as well, which for someone who is "uninformed and out of touch with reality (Just say what you really mean, I won't wipe JR's or Gettleman's ass like you will), that's pretty good predicting. And if asking about, post-Boston, how many safeties we would carry was whining, sorry.

So are you a condescending prick by nature, or did it come with practice on here?

I think it is fair to say that one of our top three needs will be BPA in the first round. Whether it be a OT, WR or S. It might not be who you want but it will be a need as well as BPA. After the first round and maybe the second all bets are off. If we find a stud DT still sitting there he is going to be a Panther before we take a player that is not worthy of that pick in that round. Gettleman will take the better player than a body just to fill a position.

We had the same discussion last year and I'm sure we'll have the same discussion next year.

If each player a team scouts is given a numerical value 1-100 and is put on a board, then all other things being equal, yes, need will win out.

So if our pick comes up and there are five guys that are rated relatively close to each other, let's say a left tackle rated an 75, two wide receivers rated at 83 and 84, a cornerback at 85, and a defensive tackle at 97.

Under this scenario, there is no doubt in my mind that Gettleman picks the defensive tackle because he is overwhelmingly superior to the other players. Now of course it doesn't fill an immediate need, but as I stated before, rosters are a fluid entity that change constantly so what isn't a need right now might be a need soon.

Now let's take this same scenario and say the defensive tackle is an 84-85 value. In this scenario, I believe the team can go with the wideout over the defensive tackle, because even though the DT is technically the best player available, it is by such a minuscule margin that you can get the value there that you are looking for while also fulfilling an immediate need.

I would argue that in neither of these scenarios is it ok to take the left tackle, regardless of how badly we need one. Reason being, you simply can't pass up on either of the remaining players mentioned that are far superior to that player. Maybe, and it's a small maybe, if that tackle was as high as say an 83 could you entertain it, but even then it's a tough call I'd rather not make.

But then that's why the front office is in the war room and I'm writing this from the bathroom (shoutout to SCP). Because those are the calls they need to make during a draft that changes with each passing pick.

this is such a fuging easy concept and it's incredible to me how many people have to be walked through it.

:huh::wacko::blink::wacko::unsure::rolleyes:

^ using combinations of those should help you better communicate in the mr. scot dialect.

What you wrote loosely translates to "I have a tattoo of Lady Gaga's nostrils on my left testicle."

I think your understanding of the language needs a little work.

(unless that's what you were trying to say)

I don't care enough to communicate with the dude anymore B). I said my opinion about how Rivera and the players deserved more credit for the past two years and he responded in kind with passive-aggressive replies  and fabricated accusations . I get enough of that from women . I don't need it on here . So he can continue his passive-aggressive crap with others and have a nice life  :D  :P  :)
