Want speed and a WR that can seperate? Meet Devin Smith aka Mr. Separation

Smith does not run the whole route tree and isn't as physical as some of the other receivers. He is more of a one-trick pony that will have to be coached up a lot. I predict that he will go in the third.

the part in bold is based off scheme. he would clear out for the other guys underneath, but would also run short to intermediate routes as well. he is also a very good WR at winning in the catch point. has caught plenty of contested balls.

the one trick pony label he gets, is just not fair to him.

If he isn't, they'll see it on tape and in his workouts.

Whatever happened to that white kid last year that was supposed to run really solid routes and was always open? Damn I can't remember his name or who draft him, but his name sounded like abracadabra I think.

Abbrederis sat out the year with a torn ACL or something, currently a Packer.

Perhaps, but more than a few scouts have said it in so many words.

As for physicality, you know that good corners are going to jam him at the line and disrupt his route. He is going to have to really work on that to be a good pro.

I simply do not understand the fascination with small receivers with small hands who body catch and show no desire to get physical in their play. A majority of their highlights are coming out of the slot in college against the lesser DBs and using their speed to get a step on the secondary. I do not see an ability to separate from coverage, to play physical with a DB at full speed, to show body control in the air, or to run more than 2 or 3 routes well. They will be owned in the NFL as a receiver, but may sneak in as a return man or slot.

I thought we already had that in Philly Brown and Ted Ginn. Seriously, the Panthers do not need another #3 receiver who can try to be a return man. The Panthers need a #2 who can block in the running game and run routes. Need a receiver who has awareness of the sticks and sideline to come up with key 1st down catches. I want a receiver who has the hips to turn after the catch and get the extra 2 yards needed for the first down after coming back to bail out the QB.

Not impressed with either highlights from Smith or Agholor. They are loading their highlights up with high school junk.

You do realize that you're probably talking about late 2nd picks at the very earliest in my opinion?

If it's any consolation, neither one has been on the Panthers' radar yet. The only WR that I believe we have exhibited any public interest in so far is Ty Montgomery. He's bigger and stronger with more upside, but has his issues with hands and rawness.  He is probably within the same draft range as the other two.

Basically what I am saying is that I see these receivers as 3rd or 4th round picks right now, and I can't see having a problem with that.

If you try and jamb him, you had better not miss. Add in the fact that there are far more CBs that can't press than there are who excel at it. So, to me, I like the odds if someone wants to press him.

And so what if he isn't a top threat. Who doesn't want a playmaker on the field? How many teams are going to be able to cover him with a quality DB? He is exciting. Is that not what we are looking for?

If we can fill that #2 WR spot. Smith would make an excellent #3. I like Corey, I just don't trust his ceiling. Ginn Jr. has had some success, but he is getting up there in age. So drafting a kid like Smith could word out well for us.

Or not. Who really knows?

So...just the perfect WR is all you are looking for. Gotcha.
