We sign Ball, Bucks sign Sterling Moore

I didn't even comment in the ball thread. It's just not a good signing in regards to value, imo. As you pointed out, the Bucs signed a younger guy, who was ranked as one of the top CBs in the league last season, to a cheaper contract.

Even without knowing what the Bucs did today, I didn't like the signing because we signed an also-ran vet for a 2 million dollar contract when we only have like 5 million in space. With Norman and Bene, that money could've been spent much better elsewhere. We overpaid. And to boot, we already signed a nobody corner from Jacksonville.

So, here we go again, another off season where we completely ignore getting Cam weapons and surrounding talent while simultaneously over-indulging on the defensive side at positions that are already fairly talented.

Sigh... Another off season as a panthers fan.

But I know guys, gettleman is a sacred cow and all around here so, dare us question any single fuging move he makes.

You're putting faith in the same guys who splurged on Anthony Collins, Michael Bennett and Josh McCown last year - and subsequently let all three go this year - to make a good value signing?

Good points. The size is key...

That being said, i still think we overpaid at an already strong position on our roster and continue to ignore our biggest need.

I think we will go O line, WR , and DE in the first 3 rounds. It will be BPA but at positions we need similar to Benjamin last year. Obviously if someone falls and is clearly the BPA like Star or Ealy then we might go outside of the plan but I think that need is a factor it just won't dictate our pick which is a reach.

What do you see happening? Are we done in free agency or still waiting for prices to drop and players to get more desperate to make deals?

I don't get why everyone thinks we will go after Nicks. That's over with we told him to go to the colts. If we wanted him we would have got him last year. Let it go and get ready for the draft, we are not getting anymore wrs in free agency. And who ever said that cotchery, ginn or brown could be #2 wrs are crazy in the head. NO WAY!!!!!

This whole 'number 2' receiver idea that this board is obsessed with is a LIE. We already have a second best receiver on our roster, whether it is GInn, Cotchery or brown. What we are looking for is an overall improvement at WR, and there is no one sitting on their coach at the moment, or any other WR that didn't get overpaid that could have improved our WR group this FA.

Then we'll just have to agree to disagree. That line of thinking is what got us that group we had last year... The idea that a group can collectively act as a #2 is a lie. I agree, the entire corps needs upgrading as a whole, but we absolutely need a #1/#2 talent to line up with KB and more talented depth. Cotch and Avant showed what happens when you plug guys into that #2 role when they aren't meant to be in it. They can't get separation, they struggle to make catches that should otherwise be easy... Cotch needs talented guys from 1 through 4 to do what he does best - working out of the slot... If I see Cotch lined up on the outside this year and running a go route, I may have to cut myself.

So if we draft a receiver in the first or second round then that is our number 2. That leaves Ginn as the 3 and brown, Cotchery , and whoever as the 4 or 5. When your leading receiver is Olsen and KB is a beast, you really don't need a bunch of other free agent pickups over who we have. It isn't like we line up in 4 wide packages that much with Olsen at tight end. We are not Green Bay or some other WCO. We use the running game much more than teams that always throw the ball. I don't see the need to stockpile free agent wide receivers. If we get one more vet that will be more than enough IMO.

Because, I thought the goal was to build the most dominant team possible... The defense is fine, we tweak as we go... The offense, specifically WR, has always been an issue. Olsen is the leading receiver, that's fine, but KB is unreliable at this point and we're hoping he is consistent this coming season so we can count on him as our #1 or #2 at worst... But, we need two WRs that are a threat on any and every given play so defenses are forced to account for them. For too long we have neglected and ignored the position. The more lethal it is from 1-4, the more games we will win that we lost last year.

It's not stockpiling, it's necessary maintenance. What we're doing defensively is stockpiling.

The goal was to use our limited cap space to build the best team possible. That means you don't stockpile guys at positions you have enough to get the job done if it means shorting us at others. We are going to keep 5 receivers likely so if KB is 1 of them , Brown is 2 and Ginn is 3 that leaves 2 more. If we draft one in the first 2 rounds that leaves 1 between Cotchery, Hill, Bersin and whoever we still bring in at wide receiver because I think we will bring in one more but not 2. Even if we keep 6 receivers, that still gives us 2 spots with 4 guys competing,

You don't need more than 1 more free agent wide receiver and potentially none if you double down in the draft.
