Who gives a flip about other teams. The teams that were successful last year had well developed rushing attacks. With Gurley this team would have a deadly rushing attack, something we can hang our hat on. The oline will not be quickly fixed by one or two draft picks. You have to invest alot of picks and FA pickups and hope they turn out good to field a cohesive unit.

Gurley makes this team better. An OT at 25, maybe, maybe not.

If your O-line can't block a rookie RB isn't gonna produce, much less make this team deadly.

Gurley doesn't make this team better, drafting a receiver does.

Mad no but it would be a questionable pick, we could pick up a rb to spell Stewart.

We have bigger needs then a rb in the first it's a luxury pick IMO

Would it really be a luxury pick?  I mean, Stewart will be 28 tomorrow. Let's say that he has another good two or three years, presuming that he is with us (and restructures and all that), then he is bound to start slowing down. Gurley may just be entering his prime at the ripe old age of 23 or 24. And all this is assuming that Stewart can stay on the field for an appreciable amount of time.

Whitaker just doesn't do it for me. He is a journeyman back who is good as an RB3, not a full time starter.

I wouldn't get mad in the least.  I trust Gettlemans judgement, and if we can set up our version of the 3 headed monster (Cam, KB, Gurley), then I'm for it.  Gurley does have gamebreaking ability and actually because of the devaluing of the RB position could be a steal at #25.  He will be cheaper than Stewart and we'd be able to dump stewie soon because of this, giving us yet again some more flexibility.  I still think OT or WR will be our pick, but I really wouldn't put it past G-Man.

I still don't get why the RB position would be considered a "luxury"

Stew is going to be a cap casualty soon. His deal is horrendous. And he is often injured (I know Gurley is coming off an injury too, but that's not my argument). Fozzy is the backup, which is nice, but people are falling way too in love with him. He's solid, but no way am I comfortable with him as the #1 guy if Stew goes down again.

Do we have bigger needs? Absolutely.

But no way would I consider RB a "luxury".

Did you feel the same way when we drafted Kuechly and already had Beason?

I wasn't thrilled, but it's also a completely different situation. Drafting a LB with no injury history when you have two LBs coming off significant injury and little depth at the position with the intention of playing him 3 downs vs. drafting a RB coming off a season ending injury to split carries at a position with good depth. It's apples and oranges. Ridiculous comparison.

I believe in building from the inside out, no matter who we drafted in the past. We need to worry about our OL before we worry about ANOTHER first round RB.
